Do I really know what the impact is? Probably not. To be clear, this topic has been discussed on many occasions with my principal. We know what we do in the classroom and we know the importance we put on the subject or the skill, but the headache comes when we think about the follow-up. \r\n\r\nOnce the student is out of the class and the school, will our lessons be continued in private life, middle school, or high school? Sadly, in most cases, the answer is a depressing, No. So, here's how I can answer the question of IMPACT. The students are engaged. They are becoming skilled in the craft. They enjoy and embrace this class, which is called, Drone Gurus aka STEM aka Media Arts. I can tell by the smiles on their faces and their proficiency each week.\r\n\r\nYes, this class is also about art, photography, videography, productions, etc. The drones are part of our tool kit. We use them for demos, covering events, aerial photography, competitions, and more. Anyone can fly a drone, but with our students, safety, accuracy, and abiding by the rules of the sky are paramount.\r\n\r\nWe were gifted a DJI controller, which allows our students to run with the Big Boys. We were gifted racing gates, which allow our students to hone in on their accuracy and safety. The overall impact, in my opinion, is that our students are becoming more immersed in the drone world and becoming skilled architects of a skill that will be with us for a long time to come. As elementary school students, they are ahead of the pack.","fullyFundedDate":1758898848220,"projectUrl":"project/education-with-drones/9686722/","projectTitle":"Education With Drones","teacherDisplayName":"Teacher Teacher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/parkslopeschool"},{"teacherId":181606,"projectId":9634272,"letterContent":"On behalf of our classroom, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible donation of new and engaging books. Your generosity has brought so much joy and excitement into our learning space.\r\n\r\nThere's truly nothing like the smell of a brand-new book and the feel of fresh, crisp pages in your hands—and our students couldn't agree more! They are absolutely thrilled to dive into these new stories. Each book has opened a new world for them, sparked curiosity, and fueled a growing love for reading. It's a joy to see their eyes light up as they explore adventures, meet new characters, and discover the magic of books.\r\n\r\nAs the author Emilie Buchwald once said, \"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.\" In our classroom, thanks to you, we're helping to nurture that love every day.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping us build a classroom where reading is not only encouraged—but truly loved.","fullyFundedDate":1758899277824,"projectUrl":"project/book-it-forward/9634272/","projectTitle":"Book it Forward","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Paolucci","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/gpaolucci"},{"teacherId":2613678,"projectId":8727192,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your kind donation to my classroom! A lot of our older headphones had only one side working, and my students were absolutely delighted to have fully working headphones again!\r\n\r\nHowever, the biggest impact of this project has definitely been the art supplies. My school does not have an art teacher, so I try to incorporate art instruction and projects into my music class as often as I can. The notebooks and paper have become essential tools for our daily journaling sessions, where students reflect on their learning and express their thoughts creatively. The folders and organizers are helping students keep their assignments and worksheets neatly arranged, fostering a sense of responsibility and independence. A specific moment that stands out was during a group project where students created interactive organizers to summarize their reading material. Watching them collaborate, share ideas, and use the folders to keep their work tidy was a proud moment for me as their teacher.\r\n\r\nThe bulletin board decorations have also transformed our learning space into a vibrant and welcoming environment. We recently completed a \"Goals for the Year\" bulletin board where students wrote down their aspirations and displayed them alongside motivational visuals. This has become a source of daily inspiration and pride for everyone.\r\n\r\nThe excitement on my students' faces when they first saw the materials was priceless! They couldn't believe they had new supplies just for them. Many of my students come from families where resources can be limited, so having their own pencils, notebooks, and folders was incredibly special. One student exclaimed, \"I feel like I'm ready for college!\" while another couldn't wait to start using the new paper to sketch and write. Their joy and enthusiasm reminded me just how much these small things can make a big impact.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe are currently working on a research project where students will explore a topic of their choice and create an organized presentation. The new supplies will play a huge role in this process. Students are using their notebooks to brainstorm ideas and outline their research. The folders are helping them keep track of their notes, drafts, and resources, ensuring they stay organized as they move through each step.\r\n\r\nOur next big milestone is creating final presentations, where students will use the organizers to design visually appealing project boards or binders to share their findings with the class. This project not only builds research and writing skills but also boosts their confidence as they proudly showcase their hard work. I'm excited to see their creativity shine through, and I know the donors' contributions have made this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1726766832340,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-curiosity-classroom-tools-for-a/8633042/","projectTitle":"Fueling Curiosity: Classroom Tools for Active Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bonin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3853201_orig.jpg?crop=3301,3301,x0,y1144&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755701014990","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ps346abestark"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_669","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":385,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":66,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.9,"schoolId":669,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 346 Abe Stark on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 346 Abe Stark","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-346-abe-stark/669"}
