I teach in an inner city school in New York City where about 80% percent of the students receive free or reduced lunch. They do not let their economic status determine their future or their learning. They dream big and have big goals for themselves. My 5th grade students are getting ready to apply to middle schools and they want to go where they can get the best education and be challenged. They work hard everyday and put in all their effort to their school wok. Most of them do this on their own because they are driven internally to succeed. They do not have help at home because their parents are working to put food on the table and provide a home for them. They come to school because they want to be the best that they can be! I want to be able to educate them the best way that I can and provide my students with all the available resources I can.
