Even though many families use technology at home, they're often surprised to learn how intentionally and gently we use it in the classroom. Our Yoto mini player is screen-free and gives our young learners independence without overwhelming them. Students can choose a story, song, or sound card on their own, slide it into the player, and listen. This simple interaction builds confidence, language development, and listening comprehension. What excites our students most is the sense of ownership and choice. They love selecting their own card, recognizing the pictures, and predicting what they're about to hear. Story time has turned into a moment of independence: even our quietest students have started asking, \"Can I pick a card?\" The room lights up every time a new story begins. Several students have especially connected with this new tool. One of our English language learners now asks for the same card each morning and listens intently. I explained to them very special and kind people donated money to buy materials to help us be more comfortable learning in pour classroom! \r\n The sensory bead bags are stored in our cozy corner and my students love to hold them and decompress squishing the beads to alleviate stress. My students also loved the bean bag cover to store our stuffies! We also lay on the bean bag if we are having a rough day or need a few minutes to cool down and be cozy reading a book. \r\nLastly, the headphones help my students block out extra noise that causes them to feel overwhelmed. The canopy allows them to have a sense of escape if they ever feel overwhelmed by the day. They can take a few minutes to enclose the cozy corner within the canopy to create a quiet safe space. This has been a wonderful addition that has been invaluable for students who may feel overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. \r\n A new student recently joined our class, and it was difficult for them to join a learning community where students have had months to develop their social skills and form bonds with one another. Greasy and saucy fingers are no match for these books.
