Seeing Filipino Tinikling poles for the first time, made the students want to learn about the Filipino dance history. Moving their bodies not only in their own space but relaying on the stick holders rhythms and the other partner within their space to move correctly was challenging, but my students strived to learn new things. It gave them a respect for the folk dances of different countries. Many mistakes made them work harder at their motion but also create a stronger team. \r\nThe tap shoes were the most fun. My 6th graders wanted to put on a show the minute they saw the shoes. Tap shoes influence a dancer's ability to move and the transfer between potential and kinetic energy during movements. My classroom is the only k-8 Dance class in the Buffalo school district. I work with every child in my school and am helping to develop a dance program for the district. They are asking questions and are excited to dance. Right now, we have enough shoes/correct sizes for the 6th grade classes. The other students are excited about being able to actually tap dance with real tap shoes when they get to that grade level. I let all the students touch the shoes and pass them around hearing what they sound like. I wear mine as i teach them how to tap shuffle and ball change. We are inspired by famous tap dancers and have a great time creating our own rhythms. \r\nThe 6th graders were even able to do a short routine for our Black History Month event.\r\nThe Tap shoes will help provide aspiring dancers with the proper footwear, enabling them to focus on their training and reach their full potential without the burden of high costs.
