My students and I are excited to share the impact of your generosity. I was able to stock my classroom store with the snacks I requested for this project. My students are motivated to earn points by meeting and exceeding expectations more than ever before. When I first brought the boxes in, all my students were asking endless questions about when they would be able to use their points to buy the snacks. There was such a variety that it took me several days to set the store up. \r\nOnce I was able to get the store running, there's only been a day or two where the students have not used their points to buy something. They love the granola bars and fruit snacks the most, and they are running out quick! \r\nI've also been able to help students who missed school breakfast. When a student shares with me that they haven't eaten because they missed breakfast, it is so helpful to be able to just give them a snack. They are able to focus in class, and I don't have to ask around to other teachers or admin looking for some crackers. \r\nYour donation has really made an impact on my students, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1778288736353,"projectUrl":"project/brain-fuel-for-young-minds/10041947/","projectTitle":"Brain Fuel For Young Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gentry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10239014"},{"teacherId":7809598,"projectId":10711073,"letterContent":"Thanks to a generous donation from the Tepper Foundation, my students have snacks they need to stay energized and focused.\r\n\r\nHunger one of the easiest classroom distractions to fix... as long as there are donors willing to provide the resources to do so. The new knitting supplies have allowed students to practice hands-on techniques and work at their own pace while encouraging one another along the way. When the materials first arrived, the students were so excited to see all of the colorful yarn and knitting tools. Many immediately wanted to choose their favorite colors and begin creating. One of my favorite moments has been watching students who were initially unsure about knitting proudly show off their first stitches and encourage classmates who are still learning.\r\n\r\nRight now, our students are continuing to practice their knitting skills while working toward creating their own small projects. They are learning that knitting takes patience, focus, and perseverance, and they are beginning to see how individual stitches come together to create something they can be proud of. Our next step is to continue building their skills and confidence as they work toward completing their projects. Your donation has given our students more than just knitting materials; it has given them a creative space where they can relax, connect with others, take healthy risks, and experience the satisfaction of making something with their own hands. A lot of them immediately noticed that this was something just for them, and you could tell it meant a lot. Some students even said they felt better knowing they wouldn't have to sit through the day feeling hungry.\r\n\r\nWe've already built routines around it, and the kids take responsibility for keeping everything clean and organized. Using the materials, students collaborated in small groups to problem-solve, test water flow, and revise their designs just like real engineers. This hands-on project helped bring history to life in a way a textbook never could. Students were actively engaged, asking thoughtful questions about how Romans transported water and making connections between ancient technology and modern engineering. One of the most exciting moments was watching students cheer when their aqueducts successfully carried water across gaps without leaking.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate — they couldn't wait to get started. Many students who typically struggle with traditional reading or writing activities truly shined during this project, showing creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. The donated resources gave them confidence and ownership of their learning. Next, students will reflect on their aqueduct designs by explaining what worked, what didn't, and how Roman innovations improved daily life. They will then apply this understanding to our next lesson by comparing Roman engineering to other ancient civilizations. The Little Bites brownies are the most popular snack item, followed closely by the wide selection of chips. It has been especially fulfilling to see how, every now and then, a student will use their own points to purchase something to cheer up a classmate. Many students arrive at school carrying worries that go far beyond academics, and having access to warm clothing and food helped ease those concerns. Students who once struggled to focus due to being cold or hungry were more comfortable and ready to engage in learning. Meeting these basic needs helped create a classroom environment where students felt safe, supported, and valued.\r\n\r\nAs a result, I noticed increased focus, participation, and confidence among my students. They were more willing to take academic risks, collaborate with peers, and stay engaged throughout the day. Something as simple as being warm or having a snack made a powerful difference in their ability to concentrate and persevere through challenging lessons.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project showed my students that people care about them and their well-being. Knowing that donors took the time to support them boosted their sense of belonging and self-worth.
