When the boxes of brand-new art supplies arrived, the excitement was immediate - there were actual cheers when students discovered the Sharpies, which are truly like gold in our art room. The colorful sets of Crayola markers, fresh colored pencils, and vibrant tempera cakes instantly energized the space. Many students rushed over to test the colors, amazed at how smoothly everything worked compared to our worn-down class sets. \r\n\r\nWe put the new materials to use right away in our current mixed-media identity project, where students combine drawing, ink work, and paint to create expressive portraits. One sixth grader who rarely participates spent nearly the entire period experimenting with the new tempera cakes, proudly showing classmates how well the colors layered. Another student told me, \"The new colored pencils are beautiful!\" The improved quality of materials has already helped students take more pride in their work and take creative risks they hadn't before.\r\n\r\nThese supplies will continue to support upcoming lessons in color theory, observational drawing, and zentangle design. Students are excited to use the new tempera cakes for their relief sculpture Picasso masks, and exploring richer blending and more detailed line work with the Sharpies. \r\n\r\nThank you again for making such a meaningful difference - your support truly improved the art room experience and helps inspire every student who walks through my door.","fullyFundedDate":1759264389147,"projectUrl":"project/colored-pencils-markers-and-paint-oh/9391224/","projectTitle":"Colored Pencils, Markers, and Paint, Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Potoma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp412207_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1518092921211","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-potoma"},{"teacherId":3722212,"projectId":9421079,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding this project for much needed school supplies. The snacks have been a game-changer—students who come to school without breakfast or forget lunch now have something to keep them focused and energized throughout the day. One student quietly told me, \"I do better on my tests when I'm not hungry,\" and that really captured the heart of this project. It's amazing what a small snack can do to help a student feel ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys have also made a noticeable impact, especially for students who have trouble concentrating or managing anxiety. They were so excited when I introduced the basket of fidgets—several students immediately found a tool that helped them focus during reading and writing activities. During a recent group project, I noticed a student who normally fidgets with their chair using one of the quiet tools instead, staying engaged and on task without disruption. It's little victories like that which remind me how important these resources are.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward with independent research projects, students are using both the snacks and fidgets to help them stay on track during longer work periods. These tools have helped level the playing field, allowing every student to have what they need to succeed both academically and emotionally. These writing tools have allowed my students to draft, revise, and polish their work with confidence. With everyone equipped and ready, we've been able to focus more on the content and creativity, rather than scrambling for supplies or borrowing from others. One particularly proud moment was seeing a student who usually struggles with organization sit down, grab their materials, and get right to work on their rough draft without missing a beat.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be moving into peer review and final presentations, where students will use their writing to share historical narratives and persuasive arguments. The excitement was real—when they first saw the colorful supplies on their desks, their eyes lit up, and several of them asked, \"Are these really for us?\" For many of my students, having their own brand-new materials is a big deal, and it gave them a sense of ownership and pride in their learning.\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the supplies to use during our American Revolution unit. Each student created an interactive notebook where they take notes, reflect on historical events, and even write journal entries from the perspective of colonists. One moment that really stood out was when a student who typically struggles with organization excitedly showed me how they had neatly labeled their folder and started color-coding their notes. It was a simple yet powerful shift that gave them more confidence in class.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're using these materials to prepare for a collaborative research project where students will explore different Revolutionary figures and present their findings to the class.
