With the supplies provided by our generous donors, my students will be creating a large-scale version of Vincent van Gogh's *Starry Night* using mathematics, creativity, measurement, patterns, shapes, coordinates, and spatial reasoning. The finished artwork will be approximately the size of half of a classroom wall!\r\n\r\nWhat makes this project especially exciting is that students will not simply be completing problems on a worksheet. They will be using their mathematical skills to create something they can actually see, touch, and be proud of. They will have to think about size, scale, placement, patterns, shapes, and how individual pieces fit together to create one large picture. Math becomes something visual, creative, and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThe technology and materials available to our students help make this type of hands-on learning possible. Students can use technology to explore the original artwork, study its shapes and patterns, plan their designs, and connect what they see on a screen to the physical project they are creating. This allows students who may not immediately \r\nconnect with traditional math lessons to approach mathematics through creativity and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nI am especially excited to see students who may normally say, \"I'm not good at math,\" become involved in a project where there is more than one way to be successful. Students can contribute through measuring, calculating, designing, organizing, creating patterns, checking accuracy, or assembling pieces. Every student can have an important role.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students will be watching hundreds of individual mathematical pieces and ideas come together to create one enormous work of art. They will be able to stand back and see how their individual contributions helped create something much bigger than themselves.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful to our donors for making this experience possible. These supplies are giving my students the chance to learn mathematics through creativity, collaboration, perseverance, and hands-on problem-solving. We look forward to sharing pictures of the finished project and showing our donors what our students were able to create together!","fullyFundedDate":1777920237200,"projectUrl":"project/starry-night-2-step-equations-and-more/10166567/","projectTitle":"Starry Night 2 Step Equations and More","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Muccioli","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10468977_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y100&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1776904840798","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10468977"},{"teacherId":7332569,"projectId":10165885,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my students something they rarely get real tools that make learning feel exciting, hands‑on, and possible.
