To say Art Class has changed in the last 50 years is to gloss over the major strides that have been made in education. No longer are all students expected to churn out the same cookie cutter drawing of Mona Lisa, but instead problem solve, create and explore. Art Education in any form is beneficial in the long term. Art is associated with gains in math, reading, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve, concentration, confidence, and my favorite phrase in the classroom, teamwork. My plan is to use Galaxy Tablets for students to create digital portfolios and control their own progress and assessment. My goal, through project based learning students will be able to connect Art to the world outside the classroom and personalize their own learning in order to reach their full potential. There is never a more gratifying moment then when a student takes something they learned in class and has that "aha moment" and learning has new meaning and a deeper value.
