The art supplies have opened the door for creativity and self-expression, allowing students to illustrate their thinking, explore new techniques, and take pride in their work.\r\n\r\nI've also seen students who were previously hesitant become more confident and enthusiastic learners. This year I asked for a variety of supplies, such as: books for our class library, a magnetic graph sheet for the white board, fun neon white board markers, a class set of headphones, and regular colors of white board markers. \r\n With so much required individual computer time from our school district for programs such as iReady along with additional class typing time and state testing, students go through headphones each year. The donation of these comfy and brightly colored headphones may have been one of the most exciting gifts the students received! They love using them and say how comfortable they are compared to the previous ones I bought them. This year students also have really enjoyed reading Percy Jackson and Wings of Fire books, so having a few of these in our class library has been great, especially for the boys who seem to enjoy those series the most. In third grade, we study area quite a bit and touch on perimeter for our math standards. The students truly enjoyed using the magnetic graph board with the fun white board markers which were also all donated!\r\n I can't tell you how appreciative I am as a veteran teacher for this AMAZING program. These kits quickly became a centerpiece of our hands-on learning time. Students are using them to design, build, test, and improve moving models while applying concepts from science, math, and engineering. One standout project involved small teams designing motorized vehicles that had to travel a set distance while carrying a small load. Students experimented with learning through trial and error and proudly redesigning when their first ideas didn't work.\r\n\r\nWhen the kits first arrived, the excitement was unmistakable. Students gathered around as we opened the boxes, eagerly identifying pieces and brainstorming what they could build. Many students who are usually hesitant to participate jumped right in, asking thoughtful questions and collaborating naturally with classmates. The motors were especially exciting—seeing something they built actually move sparked curiosity and confidence. Students took ownership of their learning and were motivated to solve problems together.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, students are now moving into deeper STEM challenges. Our next steps include integrating these kits into a longer-term engineering design project where students will plan, build, and present a solution to a real-world problem. They will document their designs, reflect on improvements, and explain how their models work. Your generosity has given students more than materials—it has given them opportunities to explore, create, and believe in their ability to think like engineers.
