Students participated in STEM experiences that helped them experience history—not just read about it—from building models that brought ancient India's irrigation systems to life, to designing and testing catapults so they could better understand the engineering and innovation connected to ancient Greece. These activities sparked curiosity, encouraged teamwork, and helped students think critically about how past civilizations solved real-world problems.\r\n\r\nJust as importantly, your support also helped us create space for students to slow down and practice wellness. Many students genuinely looked forward to our mindfulness time, especially while working on their crochet projects. Crochet became more than a craft—it was a calming routine that helped students practice patience, focus, and perseverance, giving them a chance to find a sense of inner peace during the school day. The technology and tools you helped provide allow me to plan more effective lessons, create engaging materials, and respond to students' needs in real time. With access to a classroom laptop and essential supplies, I can quickly model skills, display visuals, and prepare differentiated resources that help students better understand new concepts and stay actively engaged in lessons.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is seeing learning materials made just for them. Whether it's freshly printed practice pages, laminated games for centers, or hands-on activities that can be reused, students feel proud and motivated knowing their work matters. These tools make learning more interactive and accessible, especially for young learners who thrive with visual and tactile support.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who benefit most from hands-on learning have especially connected with these new resources. Students who previously struggled to stay focused are now more engaged during small-group instruction and independent practice because the materials are clear, durable, and designed with their success in mind. Your support has helped create a classroom environment where students feel confident, supported, and excited to learn—and I am incredibly grateful for the difference you've made. 💙","fullyFundedDate":1768588483043,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-hands-on-learning-in-early-ed/10013554/","projectTitle":"Supporting Hands-On Learning in Early Education","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Barfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9371447_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1700180307979","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9371447"},{"teacherId":6509714,"projectId":4193677,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity! Your contribution has already made a meaningful impact on our students. The new materials have brought our GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program to life in exciting and tangible ways.\r\n\r\nTo foster innovation, critical thinking, and hands-on learning, we're using these resources to explore STEM concepts through inquiry-based projects, engineering challenges, and open-ended design tasks. Whether building models, designing eco-friendly cities, experimenting with simple machines, or creating a Rube Goldberg machine, my students are now able to dive deeper into complex problem-solving in a way that's engaging and fun.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun using the supplies to explore simple machines—including pulleys, levers, and inclined planes. Students worked in teams to design and test mini contraptions, figuring out how everyday materials like string, marbles, cardboard, and PVC pipe could be transformed into working machines. \r\n\r\nUp next, students will apply their understanding of simple machines to build their own Rube Goldberg devices. They'll be using many of the same materials—along with their growing confidence and creativity—to take on even bigger challenges.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students.
