Because of your generosity, our students now have access to engaging novels, instructional posters that support learning, and materials that have helped us expand our chess club. These resources have created an environment where students are excited to learn, think critically, and collaborate with one another. \r\n\r\nThe new books you provided—Holes, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Bridge to Terabithia, Lord of the Flies, and The Hobbit—have made the students more engaged. They are enjoying the first introduction to the story Holes. As we read, students practice comprehension strategies such as identifying themes, analyzing characters, and making connections between the text and their own experiences. We also work on vocabulary development, discussion skills, and written responses that help students explain their thinking. Many of these books introduce students to deeper ideas about friendship, courage, leadership, and responsibility, which lead to meaningful classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students often read sections independently or in small groups, and then we come together to discuss the story, ask questions, and explore what the author is trying to communicate. Sometimes students annotate passages, write reflections, or connect the story to writing assignments. The new reading, writing, and math posters you provided also serve as visual reminders that support students while they work. For example, students frequently refer to the writing process posters when drafting essays or the grammar and punctuation charts when revising their work.\r\n\r\nYour support of our chess club has also been incredible. The new chess boards, timers, and snacks have helped turn chess club into a space where students practice strategic thinking, patience, and sportsmanship. Students love gathering after school to play matches, analyze strategies, and challenge one another. The snacks have made the environment welcoming and comfortable, allowing students to stay focused and engaged while they play.","fullyFundedDate":1768680969032,"projectUrl":"project/refresh-our-resource-room-and-chess-club/10020502/","projectTitle":"Refresh Our Resource Room and Chess Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Lao","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9399107"},{"teacherId":9399151,"projectId":10005070,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, these materials have quickly become part of our students' daily routine. The laminating sheets and dry erase sleeves have allowed us to create reusable visual schedules, goal trackers, and reflection sheets that students use each morning to organize their day and set personal goals. Students love being able to check off their progress and reflect on their learning. One of our favorite moments happened when a group of students used the colored paper and gel pens to design their own affirmation cards for our classroom board. They took pride in creating positive messages for each other, and it sparked meaningful conversations about encouragement and teamwork.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited. Many of them immediately noticed the calm-down area with the weighted stuffed animal and breathing light. Several students asked if they could try it right away, and it has already helped students practice calming strategies when they feel overwhelmed. Seeing them independently use these tools to regulate their emotions has been powerful. The creative materials have also made classroom projects more engaging, giving students the chance to collaborate and contribute to building a classroom space that reflects their ideas.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these tools during social-emotional learning activities and collaborative classroom projects. Our next step is creating student-led goal boards and rotating reflection stations where students track personal growth, kindness goals, and classroom achievements. The calming space will continue to support students as they learn strategies to manage emotions and return to learning with confidence. Your support has helped create a classroom environment where students feel organized, supported, and proud of the space they share. Many of my students, particularly those who receive special education services, experience fluctuations in energy levels that can make it difficult to remain engaged during instruction. These energy-boosting tools offered a positive, proactive way to help students meet their sensory and attention needs so they could access learning more successfully.\r\n\r\nWith these resources available, students were able to use movement-based and sensory supports to re-energize their bodies and minds during lessons and independent work time. Rather than becoming disengaged or overwhelmed, students learned how to recognize when their energy was low and independently choose a tool that helped them refocus. This increased sense of autonomy empowered students to take ownership of their learning and build self-awareness skills that are essential for long-term success.\r\n\r\nThe tools also contributed to a calmer and more productive classroom environment. When students' energy needs were met, there were fewer disruptions and fewer instances of off-task behavior. Students were better able to transition between activities, follow directions, and remain seated and attentive during instructional periods. This allowed instructional time to be used more effectively and created a more inclusive learning space where all students could participate.\r\n\r\nAcademically, the impact was clear. Students demonstrated improved stamina during lessons, greater participation in discussions, and increased completion of assignments. Tasks that once felt overwhelming became more manageable because students had the supports they needed to regulate their energy and attention. These tools helped level the playing field, ensuring that students who struggle with attention or sensory processing could engage with the same content as their peers.\r\n\r\nSocially and emotionally, the project fostered confidence and reduced frustration. Students felt supported rather than singled out, as the tools were integrated naturally into the classroom routine. This normalization encouraged positive peer interactions and reinforced the idea that everyone learns differently and may need different supports to succeed.\r\n\r\nOverall, this funded project did far more than provide materials—it enhanced students' ability to learn, self-regulate, and feel successful in the classroom. The energy-boosting tools continue to support student growth each day, making a lasting difference in their educational experience.","fullyFundedDate":1636029225485,"projectUrl":"project/boost-energy-through-covid-19/5958314/","projectTitle":"Boost Energy through COVID-19!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coleman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3438795_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471109928460","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/core-rriculum"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123559","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":902,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":30,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.0,"schoolId":123559,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Coral Academy of Science - Nellis AFB on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Coral Academy of Science - Nellis AFB","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/nevada-department-of-education/coral-academy-of-science-nellis-afb/123559"}
