What a way to apply what you've learned, by actually building real working models of different technologies!\r\nThrough this project we were able to bring a variety of STEM kits into the library that allowed students to put to use everything they've learned in library this year. Students have connected reading/literacy with science, mathematics, teamwork and collaboration in order to build technology pieces that somehow help people in the everyday world.\r\nEvery aspect of this project was amazing for students. To see them shine as they work together to build a structure, to work through problems and challenges, and then in the end to be super excited about their accomplishments; that's an amazing experience!\r\nSo many students worked hard to build each of these models. Collaborating and brainstorming, and saying things like, \"We need to go back and debug it,\" or \"let's try this instead because...\" Their ability to verbally express their thinking in detailed ways has been enhanced by projects such as this. Students must express their ideas clearly in order for their teammates to understand what needs to be done to make the project work. \r\nI'm proud of all my students for their hard work putting these STEM projects together. One group I'm very proud of is one of my fifth grade groups of girls. At first they were doubtful they could figure out the wiring and placement for the circuit to connect. But when they finished building the radio and turned it on, they cheered! It worked and they were very excited by this. They knew they had been successful in applying everything they learned to build that radio, and the fact that they supported each other throughout, was awesome!\r\nThis has been one of the best projects yet. Please check out the attached pictures to see the projects students created for engineering and STEM. You'll also get to see some of the step by step building procedures students used to create each piece.
