The ALA book awards have been very inclusive with their selections this year, and the students are delighted with seeing themselves and their experiences in the books that they read. \r\n\r\nIn addition, students are starting to diversify their views and tastes in books, always asking me, \"Do you have more books that are like ___?\" indicating one of the books that were funded by this project. Not that there's anything wrong with picking \"Dog Man\" or \"Diary of a Wimpy Kid,\" of course, but it's great seeing students cut from the mainstream and get books that actually appeal to them on a personal level, not just because it's popular. \r\n\r\nAt the end of the day, my goal is to get books in hands, and if they pick a book that is meaningful to them, then hey, it's just the cherry on sundae. The resources from \"Cart, Creativity, and CVCs!\" have truly transformed our literacy time.\r\n\r\nThe new materials, especially the magnetic letters, word-building centers, and mobile cart, have made it so much easier for students to dive into hands-on learning. Every morning, they rush to choose activities from the cart, eager to build, spell, and share words with their partners. One of our favorite moments was when a group of students used the CVC letter tiles to create a mini \"word market,\" where they \"sold\" words they built—like cat, sun, and map to their classmates for pretend coins. They were laughing, spelling, and proudly reading their creations aloud.\r\n\r\nWhen the resources first arrived, the excitement was palpable. Students helped unpack everything, and their eyes lit up as they realized these materials were just for them. It was pure joy watching them turn learning into play.\r\n\r\nNow, we're using the cart to launch a new \"CVC Word Detective\" project, where students hunt for short-vowel words in classroom books and then build them using our new materials. The next step is helping them blend these foundational skills into writing short sentences and mini stories.\r\n\r\nYour support made this magic happen.
