Many of my students don't often have access to these kinds of materials, so something as simple as a full set of markers or quality paper made a big impact. Several students commented on how much more enjoyable the work felt, and I noticed students who are typically quiet or hesitant becoming more involved and willing to participate.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue using these resources in upcoming projects, including creating political cartoons, mapping activities, and collaborative visual presentations tied to our current units in sociology and civics. We are currently using the markers and colored pencils to create detailed \"Historical Infographics\" about the Vietnam War and the political climate at home during the conflict. This allows the students to map out the complexities of cultural difference of pro and anti war movements. A standout moment occurred yesterday when a group of students, usually quiet during lectures, became deeply immersed in the creative aspect of the project. They used the varying shades of the new colored pencils to distinguish between different of pro and con sides during the vietnam war. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, the atmosphere in the room shifted instantly from routine to creative driven envirmoment. There was a collective \"ooh\" as they realized they no longer had to hunt for dried-out markers or broken stubs; seeing the fresh, organized sets of professional-grade pencils and stacks of crisp white poster boards made them feel like their work was being taken seriously. One student even remarked that the classroom felt \"driven, with purpose\" which gave them a renewed sense of pride and ownership over their upcoming projects.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve translating our rough drafts onto the large-scale poster boards for our \"Veitnam Era Protest\" exhibition. Students will use the markers to finalize their visual arguments and historical timelines, ensuring their findings are bold and legible for a public audience. The added support of having basic needs met allowed students to stay present and fully participate, especially those who often struggle to focus or attend regularly.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reaction was immediate. When I first posted this project, it was born out of a desire to bridge a gap and to provide my students with the specialized tools they need to see themselves as the capable mathematicians I know they are. Because of you, that vision is now a daily reality in our classroom.\r\n\r\nIn a resource setting, we work with students who face a variety of learning challenges, from dyscalculia and executive functioning issues to sensory processing disorders and ADHD. For these students, a standard textbook or a flat worksheet can often feel like an insurmountable wall. Math is abstract, and for a mind that learns differently, that abstraction can lead to frustration, anxiety, and a feeling of \"I just can't do this.\" Your contribution has changed that narrative.\r\n\r\nThe materials we received—the colorful posters, the whiteboard markers, the boxes of snacks, and the special whiteboard rulers and magnets—have transformed our classroom from a place of struggle into a laboratory of discovery.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students with disabilities, the \"aha!\" moment doesn't happen through a lecture; it happens through their hands and when collaborating with partners. Some of my students, who have spent years struggling to understand the concepts of Algebra and Geometry are now able to critically think better. I have been able to turn my classroom into a \"building a thinking classroom\", which in turn has helped my students grow tremendously in their critical thinking skills. Their confidence in learning has gone through the roof and makes me so happy to see!\r\n\r\nMathematics requires an immense amount of \"working memory,\" which is often a significant area of deficit for my students. The organizational tools and sensory supports funded by this project have allowed us to create \"low-stimulation zones.\" Students who used to be overwhelmed by the humming and brightness of the lights have been able to focus more due to the covers that were donated. By removing the physical barriers to their focus, you have allowed their true cognitive abilities to shine.\r\n\r\nWhat is perhaps most impactful is the message your gift sent to my students. Many of these children have spent their academic careers feeling like an afterthought or feeling that they are \"behind.\" When they saw the boxes arrive, and I explained that people who don't even know them personally cared enough about their education to send these beautiful tools, they felt seen. They felt like their learning was worth an investment. That emotional shift is the foundation upon which all academic success is built.\r\n\r\nSince these materials arrived, I have seen a measurable increase in engagement. Students who used to put their heads down and sleep during math block are now up and participating with their groups. They are taking risks, asking \"what if\" questions, and supporting one another in ways I hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nPlease know that your kindness does not end with this school year. These materials are durable and will serve as a cornerstone of my resource program for years to come. You have touched the lives of my current students, and you will continue to touch the lives of every student who walks through my door in the future.\r\n\r\nThank you for being the bridge. Thank you for believing in the potential of students with disabilities. Most of all, thank you for proving to them that the world is full of people rooting for their success.","fullyFundedDate":1768108125020,"projectUrl":"project/bridging-the-math-gap-tactile-tools-for/9993553/","projectTitle":"Bridging the Math Gap: Tactile Tools for Tough Problems","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sharma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10399213"},{"teacherId":10358764,"projectId":10007247,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, my students now walk into class with the tools they need to fully engage in the study of mythology, something that was not guaranteed before. These notebooks and supplies have become more than just materials; they are personal spaces where students track heroic journeys, analyze archetypes, and connect ancient stories to their own lives. One moment that stands out was when students began creating their own \"modern myth\" entries, many who are usually hesitant to write were eager to share, flipping through their organized notes and proudly pointing to ideas they had developed over time. Your donation helped remove a barrier, allowing every student, regardless of background, to participate fully and confidently.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received their notebooks and supplies, there was an immediate shift in energy. What might seem like a small thing became something meaningful, students carefully wrote their names, decorated covers, and began treating their materials with pride. For many, this was the first time they had a complete, organized set of supplies dedicated just to their learning. That sense of ownership has translated into stronger engagement, more thoughtful note-taking, and a greater willingness to take academic risks in discussions and writing.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students are using these resources to build deeper connections across myths from different cultures, culminating in a comparative mythology project where they explore universal themes like creation, heroism, and transformation. Their notebooks are becoming personalized \"mythology journals,\" filled with reflections, annotations, and creative responses that show real growth.
