We used the stickers in class to encourage students to participate, they really love the smelly stickers. We had a sticker competition in my class where students earn stickers by doing their work and then whichever class got the most stickers won. My students really enjoyed this activity and they were asking to do more work to earn stickers. They explored why such societies are dangerous and drew connections to historical examples of dystopian regimes and totalitarian governments, making meaningful real-world connections.\r\n\r\nWhile the themes of the novel played a central role in our study, the development of the characters, especially Katniss, was equally important. As the students followed Katniss's transformation throughout the Games, they were able to track her emotional journey, from her internal conflicts to the outward acts of defiance she performed for the Capitol. One particularly engaging activity involved students writing journal entries from Katniss's perspective, capturing both her authentic emotions and the persona she projected to the people of Panem. This fostered some incredibly creative writing.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, we used the book's world-building to create a detailed map of Panem. By studying the backgrounds of the tributes and their respective districts, students gathered the necessary context to map out Panem on a U.S. map. This not only helped them understand the geography of the fictional world but also deepened their engagement with the story.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generous support.
