As a librarian, I want students to have the opportunity to select books that are at their reading level. The books also need to be written so that the students can relate to the story. As they finish one book, they now have the opportunity to select another book that contains similar words, but has a different storyline. \r\n\r\nWhat is even more enjoyable to me is that as the students successfully read and finish a few books, they are motivated to read more. Through this process, students improve their reading in an exciting and fun way. Students are able to show their understanding in reading, math, social studies, and science with Legos. Students have built habitats for animals and made scenes from stories. I also use the Legos as an incentive for early finishers and during our fun Fridays. Students can share their creations with their classmates which makes them feel proud of their work. \r\n\r\nStudents are always excited when they see Legos. When we have a rainy day I bring out the Legos for some creative art exploration which students love. The best part is when students who are very familiar with Legos show students who haven't had a lot of exposure to Legos cool tricks and tips when building. \r\n\r\nLegos encourage peer communication, teamwork, and imagination. All things students need to practice.
