It has been such a fun experience exposing my students to the reasons why people might move from town to town or county to country. Why have so many people moved all the way across the ocean? \r\n\r\nWe have used the maps, puzzles, and books about families that have traveled all over the world to support our learning. These experiences have helped our classmates begin to understand and appreciate citizenship, immigration, and the risks and sacrifices our ancestors made to move their families across oceans and skies to start new lives. \r\n\r\nHaving the opportunity to visualize and use our hands to explore planet Earth using books, puzzles, and globes to support our learning has been an exciting time. Using the new materials, students are designing and building their own sculptures while learning about form, balance, structure, and spatial reasoning. One memorable moment was when students worked in small groups to create freestanding sculptures—testing, adjusting, and problem-solving when their structures wouldn't stand. They quickly began to understand how weight distribution and stability affect design, making real-world STEM connections through art.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were immediately excited and eager to begin. Many of them had never worked with sculpting tools or three-dimensional materials before, so there was a sense of curiosity and discovery. They couldn't wait to start building, and their enthusiasm carried into thoughtful experimentation and collaboration.\r\n\r\nNext, students will refine their sculptures by focusing on details, texture, and artistic expression while continuing to apply STEM concepts like engineering design and revision. They will also reflect on their process, discussing what worked, what didn't, and how they improved their designs. We are planning a classroom showcase where students can present their work and explain the thinking behind their creations.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this meaningful, engaging learning experience possible for my students!","fullyFundedDate":1768488757211,"projectUrl":"project/stem-meets-art-understanding-form-throu/9993223/","projectTitle":"STEM Meets Art: Understanding Form Through Sculpture","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sterling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8122200_orig.png?crop=38,38,x3,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757969137440","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8122200"},{"teacherId":3090978,"projectId":9992284,"letterContent":"The arrival of these materials immediately transformed our classroom into a more engaging, hands-on learning environment. When students first saw the safety goggles and 3D printing supplies, their excitement was undeniable—they couldn't wait to begin experimenting and creating. During a recent engineering challenge, students worked in teams to design and build prototypes using cardstock, then transitioned to creating 3D models using PLA filament. Wearing their safety goggles, they approached each task with a sense of responsibility and confidence, fully immersing themselves in the design process. The colored pencils and organized folders also played a key role, helping students clearly illustrate their ideas and keep track of their work throughout the project.\r\n\r\nThese resources have strengthened both academic skills and classroom routines. With ready access to pencils and an electric sharpener, instructional time is no longer interrupted, allowing lessons to flow smoothly. Students are more organized and accountable, using their folders to manage assignments and track their progress. In science and math, they are engaging more deeply—drawing detailed diagrams, labeling models, and explaining their thinking with greater clarity. The ability to move from planning on paper to creating physical or printed models has significantly deepened their understanding of problem-solving and design.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue building on these skills by refining their 3D designs and participating in more complex engineering challenges tied to real-world problems. They are beginning to test, evaluate, and improve their models using data and observations, which strengthens their critical thinking and perseverance. Thanks to your support, students are not only meeting academic standards but also developing creativity, collaboration, and confidence that will carry into future learning experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1768097512503,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-hands-on-learning-safety-and/9992284/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Hands-On Learning, Safety, and Creativity to Accelerate Student Achievement","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moncrief","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/moncrief"},{"teacherId":4132998,"projectId":10032247,"letterContent":"This project has given my students the opportunity to fully experience music through hands-on percussion. With lightweight Remo Festival drums and chimes, students are able to play, move, listen, and create together in meaningful ways. The large drums allow them to feel the steady pulse of music, strengthening rhythm skills, coordination, and focus, while the chimes bring a beautiful layer of expression to instrument arrangements, storytelling, and movement activities. These instruments make music accessible and engaging for every child, regardless of their background or experience level.\r\n\r\nBeyond building musical skills, these instruments have a powerful impact on students' social-emotional development. Playing in ensembles encourages teamwork, listening, and cooperation, helping students feel connected and valued as part of a group. The combination of drumming, movement, and creative exploration through children's literature supports a variety of learning styles and allows students to express themselves confidently. Hands-on percussion engages the whole body and brain, making learning both joyful and memorable.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project will extend for years to come. These durable instruments will be used across multiple grade levels, enriching classroom instruction and school performances alike. They will become a core part of our music program, providing students with ongoing opportunities to create, perform, and connect through music. Generations of students will benefit from these instruments, building skills and memories that will last a lifetime.","fullyFundedDate":1768706785976,"projectUrl":"project/percussive-play/10032247/","projectTitle":"Percussive Play!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivera","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4132998"},{"teacherId":326379,"projectId":10004989,"letterContent":"My preschool students (and our kindergarten students), love to play outside! This project with the resources Donors Choose supplied has had incredible effects for my 1st grade students. When they saw our Calming Corner in the class, they were very excited and immediately wanted to learn what the corner was going to be used for and how they could use it. \r\n This calming corner is set up and open for use at all times in the classroom. All the students need to do is give me the 'C' signal so I know that's where they are headed. They go to the corner, arrange the pillows, stuffies, turn on the calming puppy, take a deep breath and choose what to do to find their calm. Students always come out of the corner with smiles and a personal art creation. They ask to have their picture taken with pride. \r\n Having white board markers, a stand up white board used as a wall/divider to the corner, colored paper, stickers, calming strips, fidget toys, calming sticks, emotional emoji stress relief squishies and books, scratch decorating papers and masks to name only some of the students' options to calm has been a win- win for everyone. Lucky to have this corner, my students have made noticeable personal growth as well as growth working as a classroom team member. This corner has given high spirits while each student has explored their own talents and strength to create success for themselves and for their classroom.
