They are resilient and creative, but like many students today, the \"gap year\" away from traditional schooling left a lasting mark.\r\n\r\nWhile they are eager to learn, many of them now struggle with the social-emotional side of academics. They find it difficult to start a problem when they aren't sure of the answer, and they often struggle to find the words to explain their mathematical logic to their peers. Moving a thought from their head onto paper has become their greatest hurdle.\r\n\r\nThe Project: Making Math Visible and \"Mistake-Friendly\"\r\nIn my classroom, I believe mathematics is about more than just calculating numbers—it is about visualizing relationships. To bridge the gap between abstract ideas and concrete understanding, my students need tools that allow them to model, graph, and—most importantly—change their minds.\r\n\r\nI am requesting a set of double-sided individual whiteboards (graphing on one side, blank on the other) along with cleaning cloths and storage totes.\r\n\r\nThese tools will transform our daily math block by:\r\n\r\nReducing \"Blank Page Anxiety\": Dry-erase boards provide a low-stakes environment where students feel safe taking risks. If they make a mistake, they can simply wipe it away and try again, rather than feeling defeated by a permanent mark on paper.\r\n\r\nImproving Communication: Students will use the blank side to map out their \"thinking steps\" and the graphing side to model how numbers relate on a coordinate plane or number line.\r\n\r\nFacilitating Collaboration: It is much easier for a student to show a partner their work on a raised whiteboard than to point at a small notebook. This encourages the social-emotional skill of working together.\r\n\r\nThe Long-Term Impact\r\nYour donation will do more than just provide supplies; it will provide clarity. These boards allow me to scan the room and instantly see who needs help, making my teaching more efficient and effective.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the included storage totes and cloths ensure these materials stay in great shape. This isn't just a win for my current students—it's an investment that will benefit several future classes of mathematicians for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping my students find their voice in math!","fullyFundedDate":1635639503690,"projectUrl":"project/multiple-ways-to-show-student-thinking/5963254/","projectTitle":"Multiple Ways to Show Student Thinking","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Salzman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7737604"},{"teacherId":7815990,"projectId":9413484,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our heat press project. This one piece of equipment has completely transformed what my students can do, not just what they can see on paper. My 6th graders are now able to design and create real products—shirts, tote bags, bookmarks, club swag—and actually bring their ideas to life. The first time they saw the heat press in action, the room went silent for about two seconds... then exploded with \"No way!\" and \"Can we try it?!\" It instantly turned into one of those rare classroom moments where every kid leans in at the exact same time.\r\n\r\nWe've already launched our club project where students create incentive items for peers who are reaching their AR (Accelerated Reader) goals. They're designing logos, choosing color palettes, and debating which styles will motivate other students to keep reading. Watching them take ownership like this—planning, creating, evaluating their own work—has been incredible. They're not just excited; they're proud. The heat press has given them the chance to produce something real and meaningful, and that sense of accomplishment shows.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be running a mini \"production team,\" rotating through roles like designer, quality control, and press operator. They'll continue making items for AR incentives, school spirit days, and eventually for our student-run club store. None of this would have been possible without your support. You didn't just buy a tool—you opened the door for creativity, collaboration, confidence, and authentic learning. My students and I are deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1758289746280,"projectUrl":"project/heat-press-big-dreams/9413484/","projectTitle":"Heat Press, Big Dreams","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wieczorek","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7815990"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_70199","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":988,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":73.0,"schoolId":70199,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Jack Lund Schofield Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Jack Lund Schofield Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/jack-lund-schoolofield-middle-school/70199"}
