After a year and a half of distance learning, many of my students still find it challenging to raise their voices enough to be heard by their classmates during discussions. The QBall will help students share their ideas with the class in a fun way and will allow students to contribute more to the discussions because they will actually be able to hear what their classmates have said. This is essential to meeting standard SL.7.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 7 topics, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly. Students need to be able to engage with culturally relevant text that they can relate to. The more students are able to relate to a text, the more they will be willing to analyze that same text. This goal can be reached through a class subscription to Scholastic Scope Magazine. (RI.7.1, RI.7.2, RI.7.3)
