The dot markers, scissors, art paper, art smocks, and playdoh mats made a visible impact in the art center. In fact, this center sees the most traffic because of the items provided. Masterpieces are created daily! The children love the scissors and use them often which has helped so much with fine motor skills. As you can see by the smock photo, these are worn daily and have protected many shirts; and the non-stop painting has helped those grip and fine motor skills. \r\n\r\nThe puzzles have created opportunities to develop our cognitive and problem solving skills as well as honing our fine motor skills. Hammering out those letters has helped with letter recognition and our motor skills. Students have been perfecting their skills in addition and fractions using the 4x4 and 9x9 Rubik's cubes. They have used problem solving skills using algorithms to solve parts of the Rubik's cube. My 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have used the parts of the Rubik's cube to identify and reduce fractions. My 1st and 2nd grade students have used the 4x4 cubes to learn addition skills. After the activity my students all said they wanted to come back and do it again and go deeper with both their math skills and their solving skills.\r\nAll of the Makerspace Challenge components have become a vital part of the STEM program in my library.
