The iPad 11 allows my students to use Augmented Reality (AR) to overlay a 3D circulatory system onto a physical model, or zoom into tectonic plate boundaries in Geoscience. It turns abstract concepts into something they can rotate, manipulate, and investigate. Meanwhile, the monitor risers and precision tools like the paper cutter allow us to transform our classroom into a professional laboratory environment. These items teach my students that science is a meticulous, organized, and high-tech field, preparing them for the precision required in college and future careers.\r\n\r\nThe students are most excited about the iPad 11 because of its 'hands-on' digital nature. In Anatomy & Physiology, the idea that they can 'dissect' a virtual cadaver layer-by-layer without the mess of a traditional wet-lab is incredibly cool to them. In Geoscience, they are thrilled by the prospect of using the iPad to track real-time earthquake data or weather patterns across Nevada. It makes the science feel 'live' and relevant to their daily lives. Even the 'boring' stuff—like the new monitor risers—excites them because it makes their workspace feel like a 'real' adult office or research station, which gives them a huge sense of pride in their work.\r\n\r\nI have noticed that my visual and kinesthetic learners, particularly those who sometimes struggle with dense textbook chapters, have completely transformed when using this technology. One student in particular, who often felt overwhelmed by 2D diagrams of the human heart, became the 'class expert' the moment they could use a tablet to explore the heart in 3D. The technology levels the playing field; it gives students who might struggle with reading-heavy assignments a way to show their brilliance through modeling and digital exploration. Seeing a student's face light up when they finally 'get' a complex concept because they could move it with their own fingers is the best part of my job.","fullyFundedDate":1768688493450,"projectUrl":"project/precision-science-modeling-the-earth-an/10026862/","projectTitle":"Precision Science: Modeling the Earth and the Body","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McCallum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9365831"},{"teacherId":10403080,"projectId":10015040,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom with a laser engraver set up, hygiene items, and classroom incentives. I can teach wirelessly, and students can share their thinking without even leaving their seats. When they write their answers on the iPad, it shows up on the screen for everyone to see, discuss, and learn from.\r\n\r\nOne moment I won't forget was when a usually quiet student shared their work using the iPad. Seeing their answer on the screen gave them confidence, and their classmates started reacting and building on their idea. With the Apple TV, I can move freely around the classroom while still projecting lessons, modeling problem solving, and instantly sharing student work from my iPad. During a recent lesson on multi step equations, I was able to project a student's strategy in real time and have the class discuss different approaches, which sparked meaningful conversation and deeper understanding. The group pencil boxes have also transformed how students stay organized and collaborate. Instead of wasting time looking for supplies, students quickly grab what they need and jump straight into group work, allowing for smoother transitions and more time focused on learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited and curious. The Apple TV felt like an upgrade to how we learn, and students immediately became more attentive and eager to participate. The group supplies created a sense of shared responsibility and teamwork that has strengthened our classroom community. Moving forward, students will continue using these tools as we begin a collaborative project focused on real world problem solving, where they will work in teams to analyze data and present their findings. Instead of passively receiving information, students actively engage with content from the very start of each lesson. Digital entry tickets used during \"Do Now\" activities provide immediate feedback on students' prior knowledge, allowing them to identify and address misconceptions early. This approach ensures that the opening minutes of class are purposeful and efficient, establishing a focused academic tone while preparing students for deeper learning. Because these activities are low-stakes, students are more willing to participate and attempt challenging questions, promoting continuous engagement and a smooth transition into the main lesson.\r\n\r\nPhET simulations further enhance this active learning model by bridging the gap between abstract physics concepts and observable phenomena. Topics that are often difficult to visualize—such as kinetic energy, wave interference, and electromagnetism—become more accessible through interactive digital models. Students can manipulate variables in real time and immediately observe the effects of their changes. For example, when studying Newton's Second Law, they can adjust mass or acceleration and directly see how these changes influence force. This interactive \"virtual laboratory\" encourages exploration and experimentation, allowing students to test ideas, including extreme or impractical scenarios, in a safe and controlled environment. As a result, learners develop a deeper understanding of relationships between variables because they are actively discovering patterns rather than passively reading about them.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the use of tablets removes many logistical and cognitive barriers traditionally associated with science education. Physical labs often require significant setup, limited resources, and time for cleanup, which can restrict opportunities for repeated experimentation. In contrast, simulations are instantly accessible and can be repeated as often as needed. This efficiency increases instructional time and allows for differentiated learning. Students who quickly grasp concepts can extend their learning by exploring more complex scenarios, while those who need reinforcement can revisit simulations at their own pace until they achieve clarity.\r\n\r\nUltimately, this technology shifts the teacher's role from a primary source of information to a facilitator of inquiry-based learning. By providing tools that make abstract concepts tangible and learning more personalized, tablets and simulations democratize access to complex scientific ideas. Students are empowered to explore, test, and understand physics concepts through continuous interaction, fostering deeper comprehension and sustained engagement throughout the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1768653273546,"projectUrl":"project/uninterrupted-learning-technology-suppo/10020863/","projectTitle":"Uninterrupted Learning: Technology Support for Physics Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Immar Jun Robledo Geverola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10403475"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_82931","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1890,"numTeachers":78,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":76,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"24.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":49.7,"schoolId":82931,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Eldorado High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Eldorado High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/clark-county-school-district/eldorado-high-school/82931"}
