We've just started using these resources, and they are already helping us make that shift.\r\n\r\nWe've set these up as a class set that teachers can check out, so the supplies are reaching a lot of different students. Right now, we're seeing kids start to work in groups and talk through math problems together rather than just watching a teacher at the front of the room. While we are still in the early stages of this transition, it's clear that having these physical tools is putting us on the right path. Self-Contained Autism students can learn concepts and skills taught in the general education classroom but often need a variety of supports (e.g., visual charts, hands-on tasks, etc.) and multiple opportunities to attempt the lessons and tasks given. With laminated sheets, my students are able to make multiple attempts at their tasks without making the process too complicated as they can independently wipe at their previous attempts and try again. Other students who need accommodations with different response methods due to cognitive and/or motor skill levels, can access the same/similar tasks by using velcro cards to demonstrate their answers. \r\nMy students also work on Social skills and building and/or strengthening their daily life skills. To give them a sense of responsibility and community, we teach them through social games and classroom tasks such as our end of day procedures. Through social games, students can collaborate and teach each other social skills in an engaging way. Students work on maintaining their areas and our classrooms clean and ready for the next day by using cleaning supplies such as the wet wipes, to ensure their areas are nice and tidy. \r\nOverall, your contribution has been greatly appreciated and my students and I thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1768156039741,"projectUrl":"project/learning-materials-for-success/9986889/","projectTitle":"Learning Materials for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9681146"},{"teacherId":9651833,"projectId":10010950,"letterContent":"I am so thankful for your generous donations.
