I want to show my students that learning goes beyond the classroom. My students are learning that by giving back to the community, we all learn important life lessons. Getting my students involved in a neighborhood cleanup is a great way to create an awareness in our area, and can lay the groundwork for future waste-reducing efforts. A cleanup can also bring about a sense of community and responsibility to keep our homes and common areas safe and clean. Visible results might lead to a heightened interest and involvement among community members in reducing garbage and food waste, and preserving the environment. We will be putting in time, sweat and hard work to make the school a place we can all be proud of by picking up trash and debris around the school campus. Although we are starting with our school campus, we hope to expand to surrounding neighborhoods to show our students that learning to help others and do good deeds can make a difference in the lives of everyone.
