You gave my students a space they can make their own. There is room for their artwork, their ideas, their personalities, their creativity, and, most importantly, their growth. Every new accomplishment adds another little piece of them to our classroom.\r\n\r\nI still get tears in my eyes when I think about how differently this school year could have begun. Instead of four blank walls, my students now have a classroom that quietly tells them every day: You belong here. You are capable. Your choices matter. Your growth matters. Your kind donations have made a direct and lasting difference in our daily learning environment, giving my students hands-on opportunities and rich reading experiences that wouldn't have been possible without you.\r\n\r\nHaving small group sets of books has truly transformed how reading looks in our classroom. With these materials, I have been able to gather students into focused, interactive guided reading groups tailored to their specific needs. Together, we are diving deep into the text to analyze literary elements, identify the main idea, and discover the core theme of each story. Having matching books for every child in the group keeps them engaged, confident, and eager to participate in discussions. Watching them connect with these stories and develop stronger comprehension skills has been extraordinarily rewarding.\r\n\r\nIn addition to our reading adventures, your support allowed us to bring exciting games into our classroom routines, making collaborative learning both meaningful and fun. The highlight for everyone, however, was definitely the owl pellets! Being able to dissect and investigate owl pellets gave my students a thrilling, authentic scientific investigation. They became real scientists—magnifying glasses in hand, carefully uncovering bones and discovering food chains firsthand. While many of our donors are passionate readers, teaching students how to engage with books involves building a wide range of skills. With these new texts, students are practicing comprehension strategies like making predictions, asking questions, and identifying key themes. They are also developing critical thinking skills by analyzing characters, understanding different perspectives, and making connections between what they read and their own lives. These are foundational skills that help students grow not just as readers, but as thoughtful learners.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom has become one of the most engaging parts of the day. Students have opportunities to read independently, which allows them to experience more books. You might see students curled up in a quiet corner deeply immersed in a story. We also incorporate discussions and reflections that encourage students to express their thoughts and build confidence in their voices as readers.\r\n\r\nSeveral students, in particular, have truly come alive through these new books. Some who were previously hesitant readers are now eagerly picking up books and asking for more time to read. Others have discovered new genres or authors that excite them, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm.
