The classroom air filter is working hard keeping us safe and healthy. They could barely contain their excitement when they walked into a transformed classroom to see the dissection supplies ready for them. They had worked hard for weeks prior learning the structures of the brain and their functions. Now, they had the opportunity to see those same structures in real life. Because this donation came from the state of Nevada, I'd like to also thank you for this program since it gives educators all over the state the opportunity to receive supplies for their classroom without having to come out of their own pocket, or for the school to use the funds from their yearly budget. It all adds up and makes a big difference!\r\n\r\nWhen I opened the boxes that we received, the students were so excited to see the science related items, especially the electrical circuit experiment, as that is the unit we are currently working on in our science curriculum. But what made them even more excited was the simplest thing- the individual erasers! They love that they are also magnetic and can be stored on the side of their desk, rather than inside amidst all of their other daily items. For those that aren't the most organized, this is an amazing feature.\r\n\r\nThere were so many other things that I ordered that don't have anything to do with learning, but they are vital to a well functioning classroom. The amount of Kleenex and baby wipes we received should get us well past the winter cold season. I don't have a sink in my classroom and we are quite far from the bathroom since we are a portable classroom, so those baby wipes for dirty hands keep the kids in class learning instead of being out on a long walk.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your participation in this funding program. We have been using the materials during outdoor play to encourage gross motor development, movement, coordination, social interaction, and imaginative play. One of our favorite moments has been watching students work together to explore the new equipment, take turns, and create their own games. These experiences allow our students to practice important skills like balance, problem-solving, communication, and cooperation while having fun and being active.\r\n\r\nThe students were incredibly excited when they first saw the new materials! They could not wait to explore everything, and it was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm. For many of our young learners, outdoor play is also an important opportunity for sensory regulation and building confidence with new physical challenges. Having engaging, age-appropriate equipment gives them more ways to safely move their bodies, interact with their peers, and develop independence.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue incorporating the equipment into purposeful outdoor learning experiences. We plan to create simple movement challenges, obstacle courses, cooperative games, and activities that connect outdoor play with concepts we are learning in the classroom. As our students become more comfortable with the materials, we will encourage them to take greater ownership by helping create games, practicing new skills, and working together with their classmates.
