The students were deeply engaged in the non-fiction books about both insects and arachnids. They learned that arachnids was the scientific name for spiders. We were able to discuss that insects and arachnids are not something we should fear, and learned how important they are to nature and the natural food chains in our environment. Students were so excited each day to see what book and fun activities we were going to participate in for the day. \r\n\r\nWe hung up our large ant and spider from the ceiling after we discussed the body parts of both and studied the thorax, abdomen, head, wings, antennae, and legs of each. Students were bubbling with energy when we used the magnifying bug containers to observe insects and arachnids, and were overjoyed when they were able to use the view finder to look at different types of butterflies, beetles, insects, and arachnids. They began looking for different insects and arachnids at recess and were not afraid! We even were able to find a dung beetle outside our building! The excitement was glorious and worth every resource you helped purchase! We cannot thank you enough for the resources you helped provide for a fun learning unit! You have blessed our small Pre-K classroom with memories that they will carry with them, along with easing the fear several had about \"bugs and spiders\"!","fullyFundedDate":1776709919967,"projectUrl":"project/six-legs-or-eight-lets-take-a-closer-l/10193046/","projectTitle":"Six Legs or Eight? Your generosity has allowed my class to express their honest creativity in so many ways. For Christmas, we were able to recycle some old boxes and create a one of a kind Christmas card for their families which really helped me build better relations with my class parents. We have created an amazing door mural about the importance of being drug free with the students helping create the design and details just to name a few things we have done. Your donations have allowed me to limit some of the requests for supplies I have had to make on already strapped families.\r\n\r\nMy school is a very rural school, which has a high number of low income students who have other familial issues as well. Sometimes getting items like poster boards and construction paper is difficult. I have been able to limit those requests and supply many of my students with the items they need for projects. I have also been able to spread the supplies to my other 4th class when they have a need.
