Our title one school is full of creative and imaginative students. Many just don't realize that; however it's my job to show them otherwise. This was the first year to offer the junior high students a creative writing class. This class is literally writing and creating projects about what they know, themselves. Some favorite projects include writing children's stories, poetry, and essays and creating things like family trees, interest inventories, bucket lists, holiday menus, word collages, a letter to their future self, an 8th grade alphabet book, etc. It has been exciting to see the transformation of some students. In the beginning, keeping a journal for some was hard to do. Now those same students want even more time to write in them and are even keeping journals of their own. Not only that, but their writing has improved and they are bringing me ideas of things they want to write about in class.
