They are using the construction paper, crayons, and drawers for the center. They are loving being able to color, cut, and glue the different colors of construction paper. The students are so excited when they see that it is their turn in the art center. \r\n\r\n We will be introducing more art projects as the school year goes on, and I am so blessed to have the ability to see their creativity blossom! My second graders could hardly wait to get their hands on the jump ropes, balls, and markers. On the very first day, a group of students even invented their own version of baseball using the bat, ball, and poly markers to set up bases on our small grassy area. They took turns pitching, hitting, and running the bases, and the rest of the class gathered to cheer them on. It was amazing to see their creativity shine as they worked together to adapt a big game into our smaller play space.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a student who usually hangs back at recess step right up to bat, connect with the ball, and proudly run the bases while his classmates celebrated. That confidence boost was priceless.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're planning to use the new equipment not only during recess but also in structured lessons where students learn teamwork, communication, and resilience through play. These tools are helping us turn our limited outdoor space into a place full of creativity, joy, and meaningful movement.","fullyFundedDate":1750256169515,"projectUrl":"project/strong-bodies-strong-minds-2nd-grade-r/9416344/","projectTitle":"Strong Bodies, Strong Minds: 2nd Grade Recess that Restores","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sanders","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10049850_orig.png?crop=591,591,x0,y224&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749072893069","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10049850"},{"teacherId":10049940,"projectId":9396073,"letterContent":"When our new art supplies arrived, the excitement in our classroom was unforgettable. Several of them cheered out loud, and one student said, \"It's like Christmas for our classroom!\"\r\n\r\nWe immediately put the supplies to use during our earth processes unit. Students worked in small groups to design and build 3D models showing different earth processes such as volcanoes, erosion, and landforms using construction paper, cardstock, and plenty of glue. They illustrated diagrams and labels using crayons and colored pencils, and used markers to create informational signs explaining each part of their projects. The new supplies allowed them to bring their learning to life in a way that was creative, hands-on, and memorable.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these materials to create interactive math games and vocabulary booklets. The students are already brainstorming ways to design their own math fact card sets and colorful word wheels. With cardstock, students built reusable place value puzzles and sorting activities. Construction paper has been perfect for designing 3D shapes, while crayons and markers help them show their thinking in bold, creative ways. Elmer's glue brought it all together as students collaborated to make lapbooks that highlight math strategies they can use all year long.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using these resources to build interactive math notebooks where students can track their growth and add hands-on activities each week. With clearly labeled tubs holding materials, students can access what they need quickly and independently. This has helped build responsibility and made transitions between activities smoother and more efficient.\r\n\r\nFor me as a teacher, having these resources readily available means I can plan more creative, student-centered lessons without worrying about how to gather basic supplies.
