These texts have already made a meaningful impact on my students, and I am excited to share with you what your contribution has made possible. The new books introduce essential literacy skills while also deepening students' understanding of themselves and others. Through these stories, my students practice decoding, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension skills that are foundational to strong reading. Just as importantly, they are learning to make personal connections to the text, explore character traits and themes, and discuss traditions and cultures represented within the stories. These books open doors to meaningful conversations and help build the background knowledge that is so vital for young readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is joyful, interactive, and highly supportive; especially because all of my students are part of a reading intervention program. Students listen to fluent read‑alouds, practice reading in small guided groups, and engage in thoughtful discussions about the texts. They also have opportunities to read independently, choosing books that reflect their interests and identities. The new titles have brought a renewed excitement to reading time; many students who once felt hesitant now eagerly raise their hands to participate and proudly share what they notice in the stories.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful outcomes has been the sense of representation these books provide. My classroom is beautifully diverse, and students are thrilled to see characters who look like them, share their cultural backgrounds, or experience similar celebrations. This has helped foster a genuine love of reading; something especially meaningful for students who have struggled in the past.\r\n\r\nA classroom favorite so far has been Moon's Ramadan. Many of my students are currently observing Ramadan, and seeing their traditions reflected in a story has made them feel celebrated and understood. Their excitement during read‑alouds, their thoughtful questions, and the personal stories they have chosen to share all speak to the importance of having literature that mirrors their lives. Your generosity has done more than supply books. It has created moments of joy, connection, confidence, and discovery. Thank you for investing in our readers and for helping make literacy feel accessible, inclusive, and inspiring for every child in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1772642194165,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-books-to-promote-cultural-authen/10102847/","projectTitle":"Diverse Books to Promote Cultural Authenticity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Larson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5616122_orig.jpg?crop=1535,1534,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1611886728621","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5616122"},{"teacherId":10082326,"projectId":9471992,"letterContent":"Thank you for donating to our classroom. The students have been excited to use binoculars and handheld microscopes. When we went bird watching during our animal classification unit there were squeals of delight when they found out they were using binoculars. Students gazed through the binoculars and made observations not just of birds, but of all the other objects they were able to see enlarged. During our human body unit, we learn that all living things are made up of cells which are microscopic. While my third graders aren't looking at cells, I like them to be able to explore how microscopes work. In the past I have just had bigger microscopes that are difficult for third graders to use independently. Your donation allowed them to have access to easy-to-use microscopes, so they could be successful independently. They had eager faces and endless curiosity as they looked through the variety of microscopes. \r\n\r\nI am excited to use these tools and the telescope kit in our upcoming unit. When we learn about how light works, we explore different types of lenses. Students will be able to see examples of concave and convex lenses in use instead of just hearing about how they work differently. \r\n\r\nThank you for donating to benefit the students in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1754939476776,"projectUrl":"project/science-sparks-success/9471992/","projectTitle":"Science Sparks Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rau","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10082326_orig.jpg?crop=1025,1025,x167,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753986220910","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10082326"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_75421","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":300,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":19,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"7.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":81.6,"schoolId":75421,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Eagle Ridge Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Eagle Ridge Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minnesota-department-of-education/eagle-ridge-academy/75421"}
