They annotated the text, analyzed important passages, participated in classroom discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and used textual evidence to support their ideas. Students were encouraged to examine Assata Shakur's experiences and perspective while also thinking critically about how point of view can shape the way individuals understand historical events and issues of justice.\r\nOne of the greatest impacts of this project was the opportunity it created for student voice. My students were able to share their thoughts, listen to the perspectives of their classmates, respectfully question ideas, and make connections between literature, history, and the world around them. These are skills that will continue to benefit them well beyond their senior English classroom.\r\nYour support provided my students with more than books and classroom materials. Students were able to move beyond simply creating designs on a computer and experience the complete product development process—from developing an idea and creating a 3D model in SolidWorks to preparing the design for 3D printing, manufacturing the part, evaluating the finished product, and making improvements when necessary.\r\n\r\nOne of the projects students completed was a 3D Printed Door Stop Project. Students designed and modeled their own functional door stops and then manufactured their designs using the 3D printer. This gave students an opportunity to see firsthand how dimensions, geometry, material usage, print orientation, and design decisions affect a finished product.\r\n\r\nStudents also completed a Desktop Organizer Project, where they designed personalized organizers to hold everyday items such as phones, pens, earbuds, keys, and other accessories. This project encouraged students to combine creativity with practical engineering requirements while producing something they could actually use.\r\n\r\nThe filament also supported our school's FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team. Students designed and 3D printed components that were incorporated into the competition robot they built this season. This provided an especially valuable connection between what students learn in the classroom and a real engineering application where the parts they designed and manufactured became part of a functioning robotic system.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this donation went far beyond simply providing 3D printing filament. It gave students opportunities to experience the engineering design process, solve problems, work with industry-relevant CAD and additive manufacturing technology, and see their ideas become physical products.\r\n\r\nFor many students, being able to hold a part that began as an idea and a SolidWorks model is a powerful experience. Students were able to examine stories, images, and artifacts that represented resilience, culture, family traditions, and social change. By doing so, participants gained a deeper understanding of how the past continues to influence the present. Rather than viewing history as distant or disconnected, students recognized themselves within these narratives and understood that their own stories are also important pieces of history.
