Before away games, the girls stop in and pick out a snack for the bus ride and another for after the game. What started as \"game day fuel\" has turned into a moment of connection and team bonding. One afternoon, our bus arrived nearly 30 minutes late after a long school day. Instead of being tired and frustrated, the girls grabbed snacks, sat together, laughed, and reset as a team. It shifted the energy completely. Having reliable, healthy options available has truly made a difference in both morale and performance.\r\n\r\nThey were so excited! When they first saw the snacks, there were big smiles, lots of \"No way!\" and genuine gratitude. For many of our athletes who travel long distances just to get to the bus, knowing something was there for them felt supportive and thoughtful. They immediately embraced the idea of the Snack Shack and even helped organize it. It quickly became something they looked forward to on game days.\r\n\r\n\r\nOur next step is continuing to build sustainability around the Colonel Snack Shack. We're working on incorporating lessons about nutrition and performance into our team discussions so the girls better understand how fueling their bodies impacts energy, recovery, and focus. We also hope to eventually have team leaders help manage inventory and budgeting, turning this into a leadership opportunity as well. As a first year teacher, I have been developing my practice in the classroom and part of that process has been developing a reward system. My students need some intrinsic motivation and snacks and treats are the best way to get them engaged. The way my students can earn these snacks you have provided is by earning stamps in class. In the photos, some of my students are holding up their stamp charts to show their progress in class. They talk about earning stamps and snacks all the time and it is an amazing step towards getting them to put in sincere effort to their work and come away with something tangible as an achievement. \r\n\r\nMy students love this system and frequently ask me with excitement in their voice if they can trade in their stamps for a snack!
