The supplies transformed our classroom into a space filled with creativity, collaboration, and plenty of scientific discussion. Students worked in teams to design bottle rockets that would carry a raw egg, their \"Eggstronaut,\" and safely return it to Earth.\r\n\r\nThroughout the project, students had to apply principles of energy and momentum to their designs. They researched rocket design, created individual blueprints, build a rocket based on a new blueprint created collaboratively, launched the rockets, and anlayzed the results. \r\n\r\nWhat made this project especially meaningful was that success was not simply about getting the rocket to fly. Students had to think like engineers. They had to consider how energy was transferred during the launch and how momentum and impact forces could affect their egg when the rocket came back down. \r\n\r\nYour support gave my students the opportunity to experience science as something they do rather than something they simply read about. This field trip was very impactful on many levels. Students were thrilled to be able to assemble the fishing rods, utilize fishing tackle and learn fishing techniques. It was many of the students first time fishing. We were able to spend some quality time fishing!!!\r\n1) We were able to teach students how to fish. This is an activity that can be done alone or with other people who have the same interest. Fishing is a life long activity that can be enjoyed by all. Students now have the ability to continue with this activity and have the essentials to participate in this activity independently. Fishing will help to improve the mental health of our students through peer relationships, getting outdoors and actively participating in an activity outdoors. Students were also stewards of the environment by catching and releasing organisms in addition to picking up any trash inappropriately placed in the environment. \r\n2) Students are also able to relate this activity back to standards in the Biology classroom. This class is an MCAS (state mandated testing) course. Students will need to participate in this state wide test which measures a students learning of the state standards in Biology. We are now able to give real life experiences with metamorphosis, food webs, ecological relationships, wildlife ID and human impacts on the environment. \r\n3) This activity gave us an opportunity to operate without technology. Students can accomplishish this without their phones and computers. Our district recently had a cyberattack which has disabled student computers for the foreseeable future.
