My class is new for our school. It serves as a home base for students on the autism spectrum who take traditional academic classes, but who need a space to come to for academic support, direct instruction in social skills and study skills, and a safe place to decompress when they are feeling overwhelmed. Since this is a new class, the only furniture in the room is traditional high school desks. To provide the best environment, I am endeavoring to create a space that feels more relaxed and comfortable than a traditional classroom.
