In this specific project I asked for prizes to give out to my class for completing their homework. \r\n\r\nIn our neighborhood, we have 90% of families who live below the poverty level. Parents are struggling to get by and many working more than 1 job to make ends meet. This means that when students leave school they are in an afterschool program or with a caregiver. This makes getting homework done, difficult. \r\n\r\nI don't require actual paper homework, but they are required to bring their folders in each day. Important notices, announcements and communication goes home each day, and I want to ensure families are receiving it. \r\n\r\nTo motivate the students, I have started a Homework raffle this year. If the student turns in their folder EVERY DAY (absent days do not count against them), their name is entered into the drawing. We came up with a list of prizes together, that they would work towards. Each week we had a different raffle prize. Starting this raffle has led to an increase in folders turned in, and I am happy to say I have 98% participation!\r\n\r\nThe students are excited about our prizes, and are slowly becoming responsible for their own work.","fullyFundedDate":1742156231646,"projectUrl":"project/celebrating-success-in-our-classroom/9132265/","projectTitle":"Celebrating Success in Our Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lamoureux","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1931100_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1625837194946","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1931100"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60877","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":304,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":21,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":62.1,"schoolId":60877,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Elias Brookings Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Elias Brookings Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/springfield-public-school-district/elias-brookings-middle-school/60877"}
