Having a set of headphones on deck for students to use during independent work, or to listen to the audio of the book we're working on has been a lifesaver. When students can work quietly with music it changes the whole atmosphere of the room. Students who are easily distracted by their peers have the opportunity to really focus, or \"lock in\" as they say, to their task.\r\nThe tools like scissors, tape, and colored pencils have allowed us to start some great interactive notebooks in both ELA and social studies. Research supports interactive notebooks as a great way to engage students in their learning, and give them something culmiltive to be proud of at the end of the school year.\r\nThe pictures highlight a timeline project my students completed about ancient Egypt. We spent some time after cutting and gluing them together to sort the information into categories using the highlighters.
