The bean bags and sensory fidgets have made the space inviting and give students appropriate tools to help them calm their bodies and refocus.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they saw the new materials! They immediately wanted to explore the fidgets and try out the cozy bean bags. We have talked about how the calming corner is not a place to avoid learning, but a place to pause, practice self-regulation, and get ready to rejoin the classroom.\r\n\r\nAs we continue the school year, my students will keep learning how to recognize when they need a break and choose strategies that help them return to learning ready to participate. My students were so excited when they first saw the new balls, jump ropes, scoop balls, and frisbee! They immediately wanted to try everything and began encouraging one another as they learned how to use the different equipment.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students who sometimes have difficulty finding a game to join become more involved because there are enough activities for everyone. Students are learning important skills such as taking turns, sharing equipment, following rules, communicating with their classmates, and working together.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will continue using the equipment to build their coordination, cooperation, and confidence during recess. They love receiving colorful learning materials, especially activities that include pictures, examples, and engaging practice. My students love coming up to the chart and participating, and it has been a great way to get everyone thinking and talking about math at the beginning of our lessons.\r\n\r\nThe Daily Math Practice Journals have also given my students consistent opportunities to practice their skills and build independence. We use them for daily review, warm-ups, and additional practice with the skills we are learning in class. Having their own journals allows students to see their progress and take ownership of their learning.
