Items like fidgets, kinetic sand, puzzles, balancing beams, and visual timers have transformed our shared space into a place where students can safely explore sensory input and practice self-regulation. Teachers and I are already seeing how these resources support students across all areas of learning, from calming down after a challenging moment to preparing for focused work in the classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting changes has been seeing students take initiative in using the tools for themselves. Many now ask to visit the space when they need a break or want to practice strategies we've taught them in classroom lessons. This growing independence and self-awareness has been wonderful to witness, and students are beginning to share their experiences with peers, fostering a supportive and mindful classroom culture.\r\n\r\nThe next steps are continuing to integrate the sensory tools into small group lessons and daily routines. We plan to use the space not only for self-regulation but also to teach emotional literacy, social skills, and coping strategies. Many students have started advocating for themselves by asking for deodorant, wipes, or other supplies when they need them.
