Using non-fiction has become an integral part of many students in younger grades. Some students need the information presented in a variety of ways and places to help support their understanding. I use information from these non-fiction texts to build graphic organizers that make the detailed and dense material easier to understand and to see. Using many materials from National Geographic and other reputable sources, I chose books that support specific curriculum units from PreK-5th grade to help support generalization of core concepts into the classroom. These books will help to build a core reference library to not only teach students the information, but how to navigate a nonfiction text, which will build confidence in the classroom.
