The alternative seating options and fidgets will help my kindergartners pay attention and focus in class. Between the students who physically cannot sit still and the ones who choose not to sit still, there is always movement and distraction in class. These materials will not only help students who desperately need a fidget, they will also help the rest of the class by minimizing interruptions and distractions. Five and six year olds are not developmentally expected to be able to sit for longer than 10 minutes, however today's kindergarten curriculum insists that students can focus for longer than that. The bands and the chair cushions will support students when sitting at their seats. The fidget toys will keep students focused when on the carpet for whole group instruction. These supplies would greatly improve the overall environment of our busy classroom.
