The materials that arrived have had a positive impact on our learning!!\r\n\r\nThe mechanical pencils have significantly boosted productivity and motivation when completing assignments. Students view these writing tools as a special reward, displaying a genuine eagerness to complete their work simply for the chance to use them. Students experience fewer frustrating breaks, which allows them to work without the constant stops and starts associated with traditional pencils. Furthermore, the overall classroom environment is far more focused; the elimination of the electric sharpener's loud grinding noise, combined with the fact that students no longer need to leave their seats to sharpen pencils, has drastically reduced daily disruptions and kept everyone on task. \r\n\r\nSimilarly, the addition of lined sticky notes has played a major role in making the classroom run much smoother. The lines provide necessary structure allowing for legible lists of outstanding assignments so students can clearly track what they owe. Since the notes adhere securely to desks or notebooks, students no longer lose these crucial to-do lists or their computer log-in information, which has directly led to a higher rate of work completion. \r\n\r\nThe students love having popcorn as a healthy snack option. They eagerly look forward to this treat as a way to refuel after working hard, especially during a movie!! \r\n\r\nYour thoughtfulness and generosity is much appreciated and has made a big difference in our lives!! What began as a simple supply cart has transformed into a thriving, student-led hub of commerce and community that our entire school looks forward to visiting.\r\n\r\nOur math students have stepped into their roles as young entrepreneurs with incredible maturity. The \"School Store\" has turned abstract math concepts into essential daily tools. It is one thing to see decimals on a worksheet; it is another entirely to see students fluently calculating unit costs, managing inventory through multiplication, and analyzing profit margins. We have moved beyond rote learning into rich discussions about supply, demand, and fair pricing.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic gains, the social-emotional impact has been deeply moving. We've witnessed a beautiful culture of kindness emerge; it's common to hear a student say, \"Keep the change to support the store!\" or see them quietly covering the cost for a friend.\r\n\r\nThe professional-grade cart and storage containers have allowed us to maintain a highly organized, mobile \"storefront\" that the students take immense pride in maintaining. Your generosity didn't just provide supplies; it provided a platform for leadership, empathy, and real-world success.\r\n\r\nThank you for lighting a spark that has spread from our math room to every corner of our school.","fullyFundedDate":1756241405784,"projectUrl":"project/making-cents-empowering-math-learners-t/9605790/","projectTitle":"Making Cents: Empowering Math Learners Through a Student-Run Store","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reynolds","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sarah-reynolds"},{"teacherId":5621119,"projectId":9438668,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom project of Magna Tiles, which we have used during our school enrichment period and inside recess days. \r\n We have had many cold winter days in Maine this year therefore, countless inside recess days. Students have designed castles, towers and multi-decker busses during this time. One student exclaimed while playing, \"I hope we have inside recess everyday so I can come into your room and play with these!\"\r\n Our school has held one school-wide enrichment period since the tiles arrived. I watched third, fourth and fifth grade boys and girls work together to construct villages with roads and buildings. Another group was in the hallway discovering that the tiles will attach to the metal lockers in various ways. They then searched for other ways to connect them to the lockers and other places the tiles would affix.\r\n The students especially love the vehicles so that will be my next purchase. I have also found smaller tiles to add to the collection. I love hearing my students advocate for what they need, even if they can't remember the word stylus. Students encourage each other to get styluses when we are working on the iPads, and even show each other how the styluses can be more helpful than using their fingers on the iPad. Many students prefer to use a stylus when it comes to writing out sentences or math computations on the iPad because it feels more like writing with a pencil than when they use their finger. They also find it easier to use a stylus when we are designing slideshows and posters because they can manipulate the graphics more easily. Many students are even learning that, depending on how they feel, they may need to use different fidgets. All the fidgets sit in a basket up front, and students can go get a fidget anytime they need. It set the stage that our read aloud time each day is something fun to look forward to. When I glance up from the book, I see their faces glued to the illustrations, eyes shining, and you can hear a pin drop, they are that attentive. Thanks to your generous donation, they were able to take a copy of the book home to re-read themselves and share with their families. Many have gone on to read more books in the series. We started the year writing some narrative fiction using some of the characters from the book and I have never seen 8 year olds write so much with such enthusiasm. There is a collective groan when writing time is over. Those books are worth their weight in gold, and I am so appreciative to you for providing them. \r\n\r\nI named this project \"Tackling the Pencil Project\" because last spring the school ran out of pencils and wow, that was inconvenient. Every day there were broken pencils on the floor of the classroom. Chewed pencils. Snapped pencils. I am happy to report that is not the case this year. While the pencil holders I'd envisioned for their desks were not available, we have named our pencils and that seems to be doing the trick. Bob, Jeffrey, Lil Pink: whatever name they chose, the students are taking much better care of their pencils. Turns out a quality electric pencil sharpener makes a big difference, too.
