Use of technology is the way of our world today. Rural Maine and my students are no exception. With technology, they engage more in their learning. But with twenty or more computers in use at the same time, it can be distracting to all. Each student in my room needs access to headphones. Whether it is watching a video, playing a game, taking a spelling test online or having text read to them, headphones make it easier for all involved to learn. More and more student work is completed through use of technology. The text to speech feature on our computers allows text to be read to the listener so any student can access information not just the strong readers. With headphones, students can be working at their own pace using the programs necessary for individual learning. Headphones are critical for all children in the class to be able to concentrate and succeed. Currently my students share three pair of headphones.
