Students earn the opportunity to create their own custom button or keychain when they ace a test, master all 50 states, reach the milestone of becoming a \"math fact master,\" earn a spot on the honor roll, or are simply caught being extra kind to their peers.\r\n\r\nThe reaction in the classroom has been absolutely electric. The students were thrilled to discover they could create personalized designs based entirely on their own learning and hard work. When they saw the button machine in action for the first time, their eyes lit up, and you could practically feel the determination in the room shift into high gear. It has completely transformed the energy in our classroom, motivating everyone to push a little harder to earn their next reward.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to expand this system to include even more opportunities for students to earn buttons in the coming years. To give them true ownership over their rewards, I asked my current group of students what goals they would like to see added to the list. The ability to wiggle and move is now provided WHILE learning, rather than before, after or instead of learning. \r\nSome of my students have to work very hard to hold themselves together. Providing them with some relief is one of my jobs. However, I also have to help them to make up their lagging skills in reading, math, writing and social emotional learning.\r\nThese stools have provided us with the ability to do all of the things!
