Most of the students in our school receive free and reduced breakfast, lunch and dinner. This means most student families do not have much expendable family income. I came to the school in which I teach with 24 years of experience. I was used to submitting an order for supplies and getting said supplies within a few weeks or months.\r\n\r\nMy current school has limited resources. That's where you came in. You provided my students with a tool they need to be successful in science!\r\n\r\nElectronic balances (scales) are a necessity in IB science classes. Before your donation arrived students were using the hodge-podge of electronic balances available. There were several different models. The balances did not measure high enough values for all labs, giving an error when the mass exceeded 200 grams. Also, most of the electronic balances only measured to the 0.1 place, making some labs seem like the mass did not change (due the the mass changing very little, needing a balance to measure to the 0.01 place for usable data).\r\n\r\nWe were able to purchase all of the same model of electronic balance, so teaching students how to use the balance is much easier. Students are excited that each group of 4 has their own, electronic balance, which you provided! They are also excited they are using brand new electronic balances! Some students explained that they have never used an electronic balance in science class before (they did not do labs), let alone brand new electronic balances! Providing students with tools to perform meaningful laboratory experiments which support the concepts they are learning is so important. It gives them a way to experience science tangibly!\r\n\r\nI really cannot express how thankful I am for the electronic balances you donated. Most of my students are financially disadvantaged, but you are helping them to rise above where they are to give them a real chance to go to college and break the cycle of poverty. Because of your generosity, reading has taken on a new life for my students. The books you helped us bring in have allowed them to explore stories that connect with their identities, their imagination and their cultural roots. Many of them had never read texts that felt so relatable and empowering, and watching their excitement grow each day has been truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels like a shared and joyful experience. Students sit together, exchange ideas, laugh at moments in the stories and point out scenes that remind them of their own families or personal experiences. Even students who once felt unsure about reading are now participating with confidence and asking for more time to keep going.\r\n\r\nOne of the most transformative parts of this project has been the creation of alebrijes with clay. Students had the chance to turn their imagination into something real by designing creatures that represented protection, identity and inner strength. They carefully shaped the clay, mixed colors, added tiny details and talked about the meaning behind each choice they made. The classroom was filled with creativity and pride as they discovered that they could bring something entirely new to life with their own hands. Some students shared memories of traditions from home that inspired their designs, while others used the process to express emotions they had never put into words. Seeing them hold their finished alebrijes, smiling at what they created, was a beautiful reminder of how powerful art and culture can be when students are given the space to explore them.\r\n\r\nThis project allowed my students to grow academically, emotionally and creatively. Thanks to your donation, we received much-needed rulers and two gallons of black and white paint—resources that have had a direct and meaningful impact on student learning and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe rulers were immediately put to great use during our self-portrait unit.
