My scholars are curious and enjoy learning about new ideas whether it is how fast a hummingbird's wings beat or how tall you can build a tower before it falls. My class also enjoys putting items together in new ways to create pieces of art.
The Magna Tiles I selected will allow my scholars to continue to explore and create. Concepts such as angles, perimeter, and area will be easier to comprehend when experimenting with different configurations. The fact that the tiles are magnetic gives my scholars more time to make discoveries. Filling out worksheets or cutting out shapes to work with would be very time consuming.
My scholars will also use these tiles during breaks. Some of them will create designs involving shape and colors. Other scholars will use the tiles to relax. They can design a car or see how objects may change their appearance when seen through a tile.
The visual timers will assist my scholars with understanding when break/math time is over. The timer first lets them know that break/ math time is almost over and then that it is time to transition to a new activity. Being able to enjoy an activity/break and then know independently when it is time to move on to the next thing on a schedule is a skill that will serve my scholars through their adult lives.
