Our project need was very specific in that we needed to provide our PreK-1 grade band actual music materials that they could easily manipulate to produce rhythm in the music class. \r\n\r\nMy students were drawn to the musical instruments immediately and wanted to discover what type of sounds they made and how the sounds were produced. Then when they began to discover this, they started to participate in the rhythm drills and sections very enthusiastically, as you see in the pictures. Hand clapping only goes so far.\r\n\r\nWe plan to refine the rhythm sections into mini ensembles and allow for students to hear the various timbres as we experiment with different styles of music such as folk, jazz, classical, contemporary.\r\n\r\nIt is very important to put the right instruments into the hands of our youngest pupils, ones that will engage them to play and create in a world of rhythm.","fullyFundedDate":1769401625462,"projectUrl":"project/prek-beat-masters-shake-rattle-roll/10058436/","projectTitle":"PreK Beat Masters Shake, Rattle, & Roll","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Turner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1544591_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1574234779338","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1544591"},{"teacherId":1544591,"projectId":9962753,"letterContent":"We thank you for sharing the magic of rhythm with our classroom. Our goal was to allow students to actually experience the sound that is produced when they learn to play a percussion instrument such as the snare drum. \r\n\r\nAs we have been studying the theoretical rudiments of rhythm such as quarter , whole, half and eighth notes the snare drums are a great way to introduce technique and reinforce the values and duration of the beats. The students actually now have an opportunity to see how the instrument works as well as learning how to play together in a small ensemble.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to open the boxes and see the quality snare unit with case, sticks, pads and stands included. All students across several grade levels will rotate through the snare drum station and will have an opportunity to experience this thanks to the caring and generosity of the donors. We are so deeply touched and grateful for kind sponsors that see the value of funding school projects that can add richness and meaning to our school initiatives.\r\n\r\n This fully funded project was the last piece to our puzzle for preparing for our school's \"College & Career Readiness\" month. In our school, April is the month where the entire school (PK-8th Grade) focuses on College & Career Readiness lessons and activities. We do this so we can plant the seeds of different future career and educational paths for post secondary success. Teachers in every classroom expose the students to a variety of research-based, inquiry-based, and fun games to stimulate discussion of college and career readiness and the variety of options after high school. \r\n\r\n On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, our school had a Family College & Career Night from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Students and their families were invited to attend and participate in a variety of fun/interactive stations set up around the school (see photos). We had a wonderful turn out (please see photos). In addition, the items in our fully funded project went towards prizes for the games in these stations. These items also went towards raffle prizes during our three days of \"College & Career Spirit Week\" *from 4/22/26 to 4/24/26). During these three days, students were encouraged to wear college gear, our school colors, and neon colors to illuminate their potential! Each day, we drew 1 winner from the following grade bands: Pk-2, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th. The winners would come down to the main office to collect their prizes and take photos with them (see photos). \r\n\r\n Overall, our school-wide project (College & Career Readiness) would not have been completed without your generous and kind donations. Thank you tremendously for supporting our school-wide project and allowing us to make it even more fun and memorable! My students used the new brushes, paints, and specialized paper to dive deep into our unit on Indigenous Peoples. A standout moment was watching the students carefully render traditional Native American symbols, realizing that these weren't just drawings, but a sophisticated language used to share messages and history. They also constructed their own teepees, which sparked a great hands-on discussion about how these structures allowed tribes to live mobile, resourceful lives. For my students—many of whom come from families who cannot afford extra art supplies—having high-quality materials transformed this lesson from a lecture into a vibrant, tactile experience they truly took pride in.\r\n\r\nThe reaction when the boxes first arrived was pure joy; the students were thrilled to see \"professional\" art tools and the versatile carpet squares. Beyond the art projects, the carpet squares have revolutionized our daily routine. Students have taken the initiative to build their own \"thrive zones\" throughout the room, using the squares to sit comfortably at charging stations or to find a quiet corner for focused independent work. It has been inspiring to see them take ownership of their learning environment. As we move forward, our next steps involve a \"gallery walk\" where students will present their painted symbols and teepees to other grade levels, using their newfound confidence to teach others about the rich heritage and ingenuity of Indigenous Peoples.","fullyFundedDate":1769177164162,"projectUrl":"project/art-project-part-of-indigenous-peoples-u/9961476/","projectTitle":"Art Project Part of Indigenous Peoples Unit and Carpet Workspace","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Siddiqui","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8074863_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777441778819","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8074863"},{"teacherId":129949,"projectId":9854106,"letterContent":"I would like to extend a huge thank you thanks for funding our incredible Friendsgiving! We are using these graphic novels to bridge the gap between looking and reading. \r\n\r\nWhile many people think of graphic novels as \"just comic books,\" they are actually complex teaching tools. My students are currently learning inference and visual analysis. In a graphic novel, the author doesn't always tell you how a character feels the student has to read colors, the framing of the panel, and the character's body language to understand the subtext. It is a skill that prepares them for a world that communicates as much through images as it does through words.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my classroom library has become the most popular corner of the room. During our independent reading time, you see students tucked into corners, completely immersed in stories that finally feel accessible to them. For the first time this year, I have students asking to check books out over the weekend rather than leaving them at school. \r\n\r\nI am especially seeing so much excitement with my English Language Learners (ELL) and my striving readers.
