My students are currently learning inference and visual analysis. In a graphic novel, the author doesn't always tell you how a character feels the student has to read colors, the framing of the panel, and the character's body language to understand the subtext. During our independent reading time, you see students tucked into corners, completely immersed in stories that finally feel accessible to them.
