As an alumni from CES myself, having taught there my entire teaching career, and still live in the neighborhood just 2 blocks away from the school, I have a deep connection to my students. My students are what make teaching worth it every single day. Our school is one of the most culturally diverse schools in Chicago with over 45 languages spoken! CES is a Level 1+ Elementary school, and while our academic performance might be successful, many of the social and economic needs of our students struggle. Over 90% of our students qualify for free lunch. The pandemic has also greatly altered the lives of our students causing trauma, learning loss, and a disconnection to school. My aim is to foster a welcoming and calm classroom environment that will help all of my students succeed socially and academically in their transition back to in person learning.
