Just last week, a student who rarely raises his hand proudly held up his whiteboard to show me he'd solved a tricky story problem. That low-stakes, hands-on practice gave him the confidence to share. The sensory necklaces, beanbag chairs, and our \"My Feelings\" game have also given students new ways to calm their bodies and name their emotions when the day feels big.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, my students could hardly contain their excitement! They gasped when we rolled out the rug and immediately started searching for their favorite letters. The beanbag chairs were an instant hit, and we had to make a class schedule so everyone gets a turn in our cozy corner. Several students were thrilled to hear that the growth mindset books were chosen just for them, and \"I can't do that... YET!\" is now a phrase I hear all over our classroom.\r\n\r\nNext, we will keep building our math skills in centers as we move into new units, using our whiteboards to show our thinking every day. We use our Promethean board every single day during reading and writing, and now I can actually teach without worrying about the computer freezing, lagging, or deciding it just doesn't want to cooperate! I use the board to model reading strategies, highlight and annotate text, find text evidence, work on vocabulary, and model writing. It has become such an important part of how I teach.\r\n\r\nAnd the kids LOVE it! They especially love when they get to come up and use the interactive board themselves. Whether they are highlighting evidence, identifying important details, moving things around on the screen, or sharing an answer, everyone wants a turn. I have also noticed that some of my quieter students are much more willing to participate when they can come up to the board and show us what they are thinking instead of having to explain it in front of the whole class.\r\n\r\nAfter struggling with a computer that was more than 12 years old, I don't think I realized just how much time we were losing until we weren't losing it anymore! Recently, an eighth-grade student came into the office feeling overwhelmed and anxious.
