Occupational therapy within schools focuses on helping students learn how to do everything they need to be able to do throughout the school day. This can include handwriting, dressing, opening packages at lunch, navigating the school environment to find their classroom, organizing their supplies, behavioral regulation, sensory strategies to help with independent functioning, and SO MUCH MORE!
If you were to observe one of my occupational therapy sessions with students you would think all we do is play- yet playing is something kids love to do and it can be transferred to functional skills! If a child is able to manipulate small game pieces or a puzzle, they are better able to control their pencils or crayons when writing. If a kid who is a movement seeker is able to bounce up and down on a ball while in class they are better able to pay attention to their teacher.
These supplies will help me provide lots of different options for my OT students. I would love to use these supplies to further help them prosper and gain independence in the school environment!
