My students ooh'd and ahh'd when I introduced the light table, since they had never seen anything like it before. \r\n\r\nOne of the activities we did on the light table connected with our curriculum focus on shapes. Students chose which shape they wanted to outline or fill in with light table manipulatives. The light table was highly engaging, and students worked in pairs, integrating peer interaction, which is an objective in many students' individualized plans. These materials have added an exciting component to their school week routine. I am continuing to gather supplies for the light table, including a sensory container bin for students to manipulate tools to grab and scoop materials, which is a fine motor skill that all students are developing at three to five years of age. \r\n\r\nOur task boxes have been a hit with activities inside that challenge their fine motor and cognitive thinking skills. One of the favorites is the pom-poms with color cups. Students enjoy making ABAB patterns and sorting by color. I am planning to make it more accessible to students by building a small shoe rack shelf to store the containers. I currently have them stored high up and accessible only with adult assistance, but my goal is to make them readily available for students to choose boxes and engage in the activities daily during center playtime.
