The students never had a vegetable garden before and really took pride in tending to them and nurturing them. They kept an engei log and while growing the vegetables they researched healthy recipes to make and made a bilingual class cookbook. \r\nOne setback we had was the timing of the growth of the vegetables, especially since it ran into winter. However, the students had lots of language learning and practice to do and timing ended up working out well for their demonstration in Japanese. \r\nDuring the winter break they cooked a Japanese meal for their family and after winter break, each student cooked and demonstrated how to make the recipe they researched all in Japanese and each shared a little of their dish with the entire class. There are only boys in their class and all dishes included the vegetables you made possible for them to raise and all students were full after sampling each dish. One student even remarked that the room finally \"felt like home,\" which is exactly the kind of safe, comforting environment I hoped to create for them.\r\n\r\nWe have been putting these resources to work every single day. Currently, the students are using the green rug and cushions as our dedicated \"Annotation Station.\" Equipped with their new colorful markers, they gather in the space to track their reading thoughts, jot down questions, and share comments on their latest texts. It has been wonderful to see them so engaged; the flexible seating has turned what used to be a standard desk assignment into a collaborative, cozy experience. Beyond academics, this space has become a vital area for students to reset and rest during their busy school days. I've noticed a significant increase in students visiting during their breaks just to connect with their peers and build meaningful relationships in a relaxed setting.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are moving into a deep-dive literary analysis project where students will be using the star stickers to \"rate\" different chapters of our class novel on a shared wall chart. They will continue to utilize the rotating bookshelf to organize their research materials as we transition into our next unit on community storytelling. Students had a lot of fun doing the prints and for many of them, this was the first time doing something like that! Seeing their enthusiasm when they first saw the materials was a highlight; it immediately sparked a level of engagement and pride in their work that is often difficult to achieve with traditional lectures alone.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these models will serve as the foundation for our upcoming lessons on action potentials and nerve impulses. The impact on my students has been immediate and very real. While many of us use technology at home, in the classroom it's a daily learning tool. My students rely on their computers for composing music, researching artists, creating projects, and documenting their work. When the technology works the way it should, students can focus on learning instead of getting frustrated.\r\n\r\nThe charging cubes and wires have honestly been a game changer. Many of my students come to school with dead or nearly dead devices because charging at home isn't always possible. Before this project, that meant lost learning time and discouraged students. Now, they can charge their computers quickly and stay on task without stress or embarrassment.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is how much smoother their day feels. They like knowing they can walk into class prepared and independent, without worrying about whether their computer will shut down in the middle of a project. It's a small thing that makes a big difference, especially in creative classes where momentum matters.\r\n\r\nSome of the students who have benefited the most are the ones who used to shut down when technology didn't work. Having reliable access has helped them feel more confident and willing to participate. I've seen students who were once hesitant become more engaged, collaborative, and proud of their work.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has removed a daily obstacle for my students and allowed them to focus on being creative and curious. They are learning to overcome the fearsome blank page and to realize that they can--because they have--overcome it. That, of course, opens them up to the joy of creation from scratch.\r\n\r\nI follow up these exercises with examples of stories and poems and plays, and students try them out and, eventually, write their own. In the majority of cases, all in which students actually try, they do get that feeling of accomplishment, that joy. \r\n\r\nYour gift helps them get there.
