Your support is directly impacting 110 students at Kapolei High School, providing them with a space where they can truly engage with mathematics in a hands-on way. In a classroom where more than half of my students come from low-income households, having brand-new, high-quality resources makes them feel truly valued and invested in their own learning.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from my students when the materials first arrived was one of pure excitement. They were immediately curious about the mobile whiteboard and the large easel pads. One specific moment that stood out was when students realized the height-adjustable rolling desk wasn't just for me; I've encouraged them to use it whenever they feel they would work better standing. This flexibility, combined with the magnetic organization charts, has transformed our room into a visible learning environment where students are up, moving, and debating solutions in real-time. These tools are also helping us tackle our Skill Strengthening Assignments (SSA). I am using the \"United We Solve\" activities to enhance their soft skills and work ethic, which makes up 25% of their grade. My Geometry students, in particular, have had so much fun using the Mark Twain Math Projects to make abstract concepts more hands-on and applicable to the real world. Because of your support, my students are no longer just \"completing problems\"—they are collaborating, thinking critically, and building the confidence they need to succeed every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1771655264293,"projectUrl":"project/clean-functioning-and-interactive-clas/10107555/","projectTitle":"Clean, Functioning, and Interactive Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lauer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10104314"},{"teacherId":10299442,"projectId":9788447,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, we were able to support our Hurricane Signing Day. This became a powerful and unforgettable celebration of our seniors and their futures. Inspired by Michelle Obama's Reach Higher initiative, this event honored every student taking their next step—whether to college, trade school, the workforce, or military service. The leis you helped provide added a deeply meaningful, cultural touch that made each student feel recognized and valued. For many of our students and families, this moment was more than a ceremony—it was a proud milestone that celebrated years of hard work, resilience, and commitment.\r\n\r\nThe photo printers brought an entirely new level of excitement and connection to the event. Students were able to take photos with their families, friends, and teachers and immediately walk away with a printed keepsake. These photos made the experience tangible and lasting, especially for students who may not otherwise have access to professional or printed photos. It was incredibly powerful to see students proudly holding their photos—smiling, celebrating, and truly embracing their accomplishments. The technology helped create a space where memories were not only made but preserved in real time. \r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was how this experience impacted student pride and motivation. Students who may have felt overlooked in traditional recognition settings were celebrated equally, and many shared how special it felt to be acknowledged for their next steps. This event reinforced a strong college- and career-going culture on our campus and showed our students that their future matters. It's been a while since I've seen them this curious about something that isn't on a screen.\r\n\r\nWe've already started our first project: the Cafeteria Waste Challenge. My students are currently collecting fruit scraps and coffee grounds, weighing the \"input,\" and learning exactly how much organic waste we can divert from the local landfill. It's turned a theoretical lesson on decomposition into something they can actually smell and see.\r\n\r\nWe're now moving into the biology of it all. Your contribution has had an immediate and meaningful impact on our students' learning experience.\r\n\r\nThe technology you've provided—especially the Apple Pencils and access to Adobe Illustrator—has greatly enhanced how students learn and create. In today's classroom, students are not only developing artistic skills but also learning how to think like designers. They begin with brainstorming and sketching in their sketchbooks, then transition smoothly into digital work, where they refine and expand their ideas. This process helps them understand the full creative journey, from concept to final product, while building problem-solving and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most about this technology is the ability to combine traditional drawing with digital precision. The Apple Pencil allows them to draw naturally, just like on paper, while also giving them the flexibility to edit, experiment, and improve their work easily. Adobe Illustrator introduces them to professional tools used in real-world design careers, which makes their work feel more authentic and purposeful. Students love being able to see their ideas come to life in a polished, professional format.\r\n\r\nWe've also seen a noticeable impact on student engagement. Some students who were previously unsure of their artistic abilities have gained confidence because digital tools allow them to revise and improve their work without frustration. Others who already had strong skills have been able to push themselves further, exploring advanced techniques and creating impressive designs. It's especially rewarding to see a wider range of students finding success and pride in their work.\r\n\r\nYour support is helping create a classroom where creativity, innovation, and growth are possible for every student. Because of your support, our \"Creator Space\" is no longer just a dream—it is a bustling hub of activity where students are transforming from passive consumers of media into skilled digital creators.\r\n\r\nMany of you use technology daily for work or communication, but in our classroom, these tools serve as a bridge between technical skill and personal expression. The professional lighting tools, like the selfie ring lights and RGB video lights, have turned our classroom into a semi-pro studio.\r\n\r\nStudents are learning that photography isn't just about \"taking a picture\"—it's about manipulating light, understanding shadows, and technical composition. This technology helps them see the world through a more critical, artistic lens, teaching them that they have the power to control their narrative.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting additions have undoubtedly been the portable light box and the strategy games like Azul. The light box helped my students captured professional-looking photos of their products in our Commercial Photography series and will be used for many years to come.\r\n\r\nThe games have been a fun addition to our class to bring out the competitive spirit and encourage teamwork in a way that traditional lessons often can't. They help my students have fun in class and put their minds to work when they finish work early.\r\n\r\nThe shift in classroom energy has been remarkable. Many students who used to retreat into their phones during downtime are now fully present in the room. Instead of losing themselves in endless social media feeds, they are huddled around game boards or using the new art materials to add to their photo journals or create free drawings. This project has successfully provided a 'digital detox' that encourages them to interact with their peers and their own imagination\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in the \"soft skills\" and creative potential of these bright young minds. Your contribution has allowed us to transform passive reading into an innovative, interdisciplinary experience that has deepened my students' critical thinking and engagement with literature.\r\n\r\nWhile reading is essential, many high school students struggle to visualize the complex geographies, urban planning, and symbolic environments found in classic novels. Previously, we relied on flat maps or simple sketches, which often failed to convey the symbolic weight and spatial realities of these crucial settings. This project addressed that need by making these disparate worlds tangible through a hands-on, collaborative endeavor.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students were able to design and construct detailed 3D models of settings from cornerstone novels. Some students tackled J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, incorporating engineering and design features to model the natural terrain and distinct structures of Middle-earth, such as the Shire and Erebor. Others shifted their focus to dystopian landscapes, meticulously modeling the oppressive, monumental architecture of Oceania from 1984 or the rigid, uniform urban environment of the City from Anthem.\r\n\r\nThe specialized materials you provided were essential for this level of detail. Students used curved-point tweezers for the precision needed to build miniature bricks that form the realistic, stark walls of totalitarian states. To bring the fantasy elements to life, they utilized miniature garden kits, resin figurines, and fairy garden accessories, along with hundreds of model trees and wooden garden doors to recreate the lush, rolling hills of the Shire and the untamed wilderness of Middle-earth.\r\n\r\nThis process forced students to adapt their building techniques—using natural elements for fantasy and geometric materials for totalitarian settings. This physical construction facilitated a deeper comparative literary analysis, helping students understand how physical settings reinforce a novel's themes while developing 21st-century skills in project management, precision, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nYour gift ensured that these powerful literary worlds became fully realized and understood.
